How strange that the article mentions:

Home buyers now pay eight times as much in closing costs as they did 40 years ago.

Since all this economic talk lately have been comparing today with ABOUT 40 years ago! :o

Some fees can't be avoided.

Appraisal fee, credit report fee, title exam, title insurance, flood certification fee.

But if you are paying more than 1 to 1.5 in discount on a competitive interest rate and modest doc prep fee, you are getting screwed.

If you see 'brokerage fee' on the Good Faith Estimate - well that's when I head out the door to another lender.

I bet they pay 8 times the property tax today too.
