Hi.. I filed my N-400 today based on 3 years marriage. But I have a huge concert about my application being denied.

Back in 2010 I left my dog in a car for a short period of time but have received a citation, went to the court, and completed 30 hours

of community service. It was my first crime and since then I havent done anything wrong.About 8 months after I received a citation I filed for

removal condition ,received my permament green card .USCIS havent even asked me a question about what happen( I attached a paper clerk gave me

in a court with my application). I did the same this time, with my N-400 .. But I am really worried about my application being denied or even myself being placed for removal:(

Should I start saving money for a lawyer or will I be ok?

This probably won't be an issue but typically it's a good idea to wait 5 years since an infraction, at least depending on the severity of the offense. What exactly did you get found guilty of?

Thanks for the reply . I'm believed it was animal cruelty of so . No court paperwork say anything that . Just say that it is county ordinance , community service complete and case dismissed.

I went through the Internet and found out that on form N400 on question 15 " have you ever commited a crime for which you haven't arrested" I answered yes because I though they are asking if I commited a crime but haven't been arrested by the law officer for that crime . But I read that you answer yes if you commited a crime but got away with it .. What should I do now ? Please help !

I think it should be ok for you.... but for future reference, NEVER leave a pet or a child in a car alone period ...

Of course I wouldn't leave a child in a car alone neither pet anymore . I couldn't take my dog with me to the restourant , and I ordered carry out . In fact I don't take my dog with me in a car anymore in case i will need to stop by gas station :(

You should be fine.

At the interview the officer will go over your application with you line by line. You will have a chance to tell the officer exactly what happened and he/she will be able to make sure the information is recorded correctly on the form. . Bring with you all of the evidence you have about the offense, including the report that you have completed the assigned sentence. USCIS is concerned about individuals who have committed criminal offenses or offenses which show lack of moral character. Your offense is neither. You should be perfectly fine. You won't be deported, and it is unlikely they will deny your citizenship application based upon this offense either. Even if they did, you would still be a permanent resident/green card holder and would be allowed to re-apply in another few years. I doubt, however, that this will happen and expect you will not have a problem with your citizenship petition. So, study the questions and answers for the civics exam so you will be well prepared.

Good luck.

I left windows open for mine, but the officer didn't care .. My dog was sitting in a car, barking , I guess that caught cops attention . Larry was perfectly fine .

You should be fine - just chill...

I'm assuming that since you answered 15 as Yes that you also completed the four fields after question 21. That gives them a better understanding of the situation.

I answered 15 " have you ever commited a crime for which you weren't arrested ?" yes. And I answered 16 " yes" have you been cited " . I also explained in a sheet of paper what happened . Well , it's too late now . My package is already in Lewisville , TX . Hope they will forgive me for what I did . I was really hoping after I get naturalization I will get my mom and dad here with us .:(

Only 14 states have a law that states you can not leave an animal in the car unattended. However most of those 14 states will not give a citation if the animals life is not in danger. I think you got unlucky because you have a local ordinance against leaving animal in thy car....
