If you don't like honest and highly probable answers to Lagos then maybe you should stop reading VJ responses. It isn't the land of easy and there are a lot of bad things that can happen. I know personally that nothing there goes as planned. If you want happiness and friends I would suggest you try facebook. More and more Nigerians are getting AP and it would disrupt the flow of getting to the US and should be part of smart planning. With it being an unknown you need to allow extra flexablity for the event. DIfferent fare rules have different penalties. Open tickets are not always the cheapest route.

It's not that I don't appreciate the "additional information and learning curve" it's the tactfulness in which you deliver it sometimes. That's all I'm saying. And it is not just you, it is also another person who also has her husband home already. It's not that we don't want to here...hey, ladies, "I have heard, or seen, or read...this is going on and you may want to consider doing this, reading thing, trying this, etc." Instead of coming across as, "well you all can just toss that up to the wind, cause it's not going to happen like you want it too."

Without faith, we couldn't make it through this process. And I'm declaring, I'm going to be happy here and everywhere else. My final destination and the outcome of gettign my husband home is not up to you or your judgments, it is up to God alone. I pray you have a very blessed day.

1. Anyone who fails to carefully heed every word that N or B says about Lagos is playing with fire.

2. Sometimes, people NEED to be hit between the eyes with reality.

3. It's not necessarily the OP that N or B is always addressing, but a larger audience -- often the unwashed.

4. Consider that perhaps God doesn't very often influence consular officers at Lagos or anywhere else.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I agree with Dana! There is nothing God cannot do! If we get a denial?? Well thats on us Christians to know that a delay is neccesary in Gods plan (just in case you want to come back with a rebuttal on our faith and what we believe when the chips are down!)

And delivery is key! If you want people to 'heed' your advice, kindness with honesty goes a lot further than negativity with honesty! It doesnt kill someone to kind and considerate, but for some of the more sensitive people, negativity can adversly affect them. And yes, before you get on me, we all have our own personalities, I get that. Some people are pot stirrers, some bubble at the surface while others rise up on the steam above and out of the pot!!!!

So in light of all this drama, I will say, Bless their hearts! :)

Have a fabulous day!

No advice to give, but I will share what we did (for what it's worth, I know Central American is not Africa).

My mother and I flew to Honduras on Friday with our return flight booked for the following Saturday (8 days). Husband went to interview on Monday, got his passport back the same day (miracle!), then that night I called Delta to buy his ticket. The cust service rep was very accomodating and got him a one way itinerary identical to mine, the website was actually not receiving payments at the time so I was able to book over the phone without extra charge. I understand we were incredibly blessed in this, it could have really turned into a logistical nightmare with me not wanting neither my mother nor my husband flying alone!

But flights to/from Honduras are rarely full (excluding Christmas time), and his flight was about the same price as my round trip. I had been checking leading up to his interview date how much it would cost me to buy a ticket less than 7 days in advance. Also, checking the flights I was on to see if seats were filling up. On VJ (embassy section), I figured we could plan on a short wait overnight up to waiting one week for his passport/visa.

It's not the kind of thing you can plan, but it doesn't hurt to be prepared!

Thank you so much for your inout. Yes this is not a NIgerian thing. I know all over the world many couples are shuffling around and hadling this. I was just ughhhh like do I buy a round trip ticket and what if there's no seat on the return flight for my husband. I don;t dare buy a one way for him since in NIgeria the Visa may or maynot be issues in a timely manner after the approval.

But now I can plan and my ticket yes roundtrip his, down to the minute and somebody will just have to get offf the plane. LOL

Thank you so much. This was a very helpful reply and gives me some ideas of what to do when the time comes! That is my stance also. This is my husbands first time flying and I do not want him to have to fly home alone. I'm praying God works it out for us to fly home together as well. Again, I truly appreciate the direction.
