Wedding Requirements

Not rude, but I am answering with experience from the Montreal consulate, are you?

Married is married. Having the family there is NOT a requirement - which is actually what the OP asked. Why would they ask for it?

What's also misleading is judging the OP's marriage. It is not a shame or is it less bonafide. But hey, attack me.

Good luck all

Rude? How about assuming the OP is 'hiding the marriage' because the family wasn't there.

That's rude

NOBODY is judging the OP for having a sham wedding nor assuming that the OP is hiding the marriage. We are advising the OP on how to ensure that the consulate doesn't think that the OP's wedding is a sham.

Just because YOU had smooth sailing, doesn't mean everybody will. like QP&Thomas said, there are people who get denied their spousal visas because the consulate (not us) believes their marriage to be one of convenience.

so yeah, you're being rude for making an #### out of yourself assuming our intentions, which are to save the OP the massive headache that could potentially happen should the consulate actually question the marriage .. vs you giving potentially damaging advice where the OP isn't prepared to have the marriage questioned.

QP, Canadian_wife..... There is no guarantee that the consular won't ask, yet there is no guarantee that they will ask. Stop with the assumptions. Obviously from the OP, it appears that they intend to marry and then file for IR/CR1. You have to think, if the marriage is outside the US, will family of the USC attend?

I can easily think of a situation for K1 where the family might not attend. Maybe the processing center took so long that the marriage has to take place sometime during the winter months, and the petitioner/beneficiary are only granted 90 days to complete this. They don't want to marry in a church, so they do a civil marriage first where it is cheap and serves the lawful part of the requirement, and then have a mock wedding for family during the spring/summer. I'm sure there would be pictures from the mock wedding, but they are obviously from a different time of the year. Would this prove an issue with something like AOS? IDK...

Wow are you misinformed....."Married is Married"??? Many married couples get denied a spousal visa due to the fact that the consular officer believes the marriage is for immigration purposes only.

Out of Montreal? Very few

I took the OP's question to be consulate specific. Based on MY experience with the consulate, and those of my countrymen, lack of attendance at a wedding is not a requirement, nor does it seem to be an issue. Issues at Montreal are domicile related.

I would never assume that what is an issue at one consulate will be an issue at all. If the OP is legitimatly concerned, then yes - take precautions. If the wedding has already taken place, then there is no need to worry (IN MY OPINION)

Good luck
