Hello all,

I am in a confusion right now. The issue is with spelling of birth place on my wife's BC. On I130 forms I spelled it as "Proddutur" and in her passport also it is "Proddutur". Now its time to submit DS230 form and I realized that on BC it is spelled as "Proddatur". I am not very sure what to do here. Should I go with what it says on BC? Will they compare the birth place on passport and BC? Should I be prepared for RFE? Please advice.

Thank you!

I don't think it is big mistake, it can be treated as just an oversight from entry on BC.

You should go with passport spelling, it can be explained that this is the way that BC was made at that time.

If you want to be sure, go to registrar of Birth/Death... get a new BC and ask them to spell it as it is on passport.

OR you may got a surprise that place of birth is correctly spelled there (same as passport)

OR one more, it is spelled in a total different way.

Not to worry, just follow the passport spelling and send BC as it is...

I never heard any time in last 3 years on VJ, an REF is created for this (one letter different in place of birth and "a" and "u" can sound similiar depending which part of world/state/city you are from and also the letter is coming after "dd..")

Good Luck.
