Who (petitioner or beneficiary) actually gets the NOA1 in the mail? USCIS says:

"USCIS will then send the official receipt notice, Form I-797C, Notice of Action, to the person seeking the benefit or the person's representative, as appropriate, via the U.S. Postal Service."

When one is a beneficiary, does this make them the person seeking the benefit or is it the petitioner? I'm the one getting the visa, not my USC fiancee...

Apologies if this is covered some place else, I just wanted to be clear.

Not a silly question at all. I am new visa Journey and just received my NOA1 last week. The petitioner will receive the NOAs. Your other half:) is the beneficiary. For example my fiance who lives in the Philippines is the beneficiary. I am petitioning for her to come her so we can get married. I hope this helps. Feel free to follow my timeline and ask me any questions, especially since everything is fresh in my mind.

Cool. Just so I understand...

NOA1 and NOA2 go to my USC fiancee petitioner. Then the approved petition goes to NVC who collect payment and give me a case number. Then it's forwarded to the Sydney consulate where I go for my interview?

The NVC doesn't collect your visa fee payment. That's done once the case, which will be assigned a consular number, reaches Sydney.

The NVC doesn't collect your visa fee payment. That's done once the case, which will be assigned a consular number, reaches Sydney.

Cool. Well I guess we'll get the NOA1 soon and then the real wait begins... >_>

Right now, the petition is the US citizen's. He is asking to petition you. The NOA1/RFE/NOA2/any other hardcopies will be sent to his address, so will the letter from NVC right before the petition is sent to the embassy.

When the approved petition ends up at the embassy, it becomes your visa application. Then you receive the future hardcopies(packet 3/instructions/passport w/ visa sent through mail).

Hope that's understandable.

Interview took 224 days from I-129F NOA1 date. (241 days from filing petition until visa in hand)

I know this won't make much sense now... but! Make sure you keep NOA2 in a safe place because it won't be needed for the rest of the K1 process, but IT WILL be needed later down the road. USCIS charges about $500 for a copy.

:thumbs: Very understandable. The petitioner is seeking the 'benefit' to sponsor his/her fiance/e. Therefore, the petitioner receives the receipts/information concerning the petition.

:thumbs: Plus the alien registration number is typically on the NOA2 right above the beneficiary's name. I scanned in the NOA2 so I can make a copy of it anytime I need to.
