What passport to use, the old or the US Passport?

Ok here's the scenario, we're going to file N400 (Naturalization) this August and were planning to go on vacation (visit my family after 3 years!) abroad on December.

So lets say i got an interview on November and got approved (being optimistic) ..

Is it ok to use my old passport OR should i get a new one? If so, how long is the process of getting a US Passport? And will i get in trouble if i use my old passport even im already a citizen?

I wanna buy ticket but these questions makes me worried that i might get in trouble at the immigration/airport.

You absolutely MUST use a US passport to enter the US if you are a US citizen.

If they take your GC how will you re-enter the US? If you have a passport office near you, you can get a passport that day or a few days later. You can use whatever you want to travel internationally as long as the country you visit accepts it. It is returning to the US. Anybody can leave the US. Only people with valid visas, GCs, or USC with passports get to re-enter and of all those only the USC is guaranteed re-entry. People have used their Kazakshstani passport to avoid paying for a visa to Kazakhstan and then use their US passport to re-enter the US. But you must have something to get back into the US.

So say by November if you are naturalized means, you have taken the oath and you have got your naturalization certificate, I THINK you no longer can use your Philippines passport, unless Philippines allows dual citizenship.

Also I m thinking even if Philippines allows dual citizenship, it would be hassle to travel out of US without US passport.

Say u left on Philippines passport but during re-entry you will need some document (GC) or visa plus your passport and as far as I m aware you are required to turn in your GC upon naturalization.

When you become a U.S. citizen, you renounce your current citizenship. Since you will no longer be a Filipino citizen, you must travel on a U.S. passport. It only takes a week or two to get a U.S. passport.

The Philippines will allow you to apply for dual citizenship. For information about the application process, check out the website of the Philippines Consulate which has jurisdiction over the location where you live.

When traveling, make sure the name on your plane ticket matches the name in your passport.

You definitely need a US passport. As a US citizen, you will get a LOT of flack and hassle if you try to reenter the US using your other passport.

Generally speaking, if you are a citizen of country X, you virtually certainly need a passport from country X to enter that country. I think Canada may let Canadian-American dual citizens in with only a US passport, but I strongly suspect that that is the exception more than the rule.

I don't know if PI will let a PI citizen in without a PI passport. You may very well need both. I would check with the PI embassy to confirm if you still need a PI passport, but I'm pretty sure the answer is yes.

The US citizenship clause includes an oral renunciation of other citizenships. Some countries (India, china, Germany if you haven't done a paperwork process first) take it at face value, and consider you to have renounced your citizenship to them during the US oath ceremony. Other countries, like Canada, Great Britain, and (I think) most of Western Europe and Australia don't care what you say in the US oath ceremony, and still consider you to be a citizen of theirs until and unless you renounce your citizenship to them on paper at one of their consulates.

I don't know if PI takes the oral renunciation seriously or not. they may not. I don't recall hearing that they do. It's another good question for the local PI consulate.
