Hi VJers

We have received a mail confirmation that a file number has been generated. We need to submit a scanned copy of DS-230 Part I now to schedule an interview.

Question -

  1. When do we have to submit I 864? at the time of interview?
  2. Is it possible to get some wait time before we organise all our docs? or will the interview date come as soon as we send DS 230 and it gets approved etc .... ?
  3. Can we request them for scheduling interview at so and so date etc?

We have started collecting docs needed for DS 230. Can someone just provide link as to what is the scanned copy we need to send so that we are doubly sure.

So far we have - filled copy of http://www.state.gov/documents/organization/81807.pdf

Is this all? or do we need to send the supporting documents right now too?

Thanks!

We are just going through this stage as well. You just need to submit the first 2 pages of the DS-230 as far as I understand and then you should get an appointment and will take the I-864 but I am not sure if it has to be taken to VFS 4 days before or if you take it to the appointment. I am a little paraniod that the VFS people will not enter in the info as I have had nothing but bad luck with them so we are trying to decide if we should also send our DS-230 via snail mail.

I think there is no choice as to the interview date but once you have a date you can request to have it rescheduled but mostly that would be for a later date (which would work for you if you are still needing to collect documents).I put in an email to VFS-Mumbai on Friday last week which was supposedly fwd to the embassy on Monday but God only knows when I will here back. If I get any useful info I will be sure to share. Wishing you much luck!

Thanks aprilflower....

and i know how long and tiring this process has been for you...

we have been told Packet 3 has been dispatched to our address.. sigh havent received yet...

Do you suggest we send the DS 230 scanned copy then? also to which email address?

We have also been told that we will get the appt letter atleast a month before the actual appt date...

If anyone in India has more info on the Mumbai consulate would be really helpful... people who have been thru the whole waiting period...

Wish you the best too!

Miracle of miracles and holy #######! I got a call from VFS today and they have scheduled our interview for August 22nd which means we now have to submit our stuff to VFS on Tuesday!!! They sent me an email copy of the appointment letter (as I asked about getting one in my email on Friday to them) but I don't know what kind of bribe or to whom we will have to go to get the police clearance done on time. I had already been working on packet 3 as I have my Dad as cosponsor and so he had been gathering up documents and whatnot in the US so called him this morning and told him to courier that ASAP along with the signed I-864 stuff and made the medical appointment for this Saturday. Main problem is that we need my husband's passport everywhere so we can't give it over to the police as we might not get it back in time for the medical or submitting to VFS. They said if we can't manage the PCC then to bring it to the interview but that is still only 2 weeks, not much when you factor in traveling time and whatnot.

I had emailed the DS-230 part I to VFS Mumbai (infousmumbai@vfshelpline.com). If you can I suggest trying to get the PCC from the passport office as soon as possible because it seems that often takes people a month or so if using regular channels. We have been trying to get an appointment online through the new INdian Seva website for the past 2 weeks but have not managed, it may be easier in some other cities besides Surat. Both my husband and I read all the tricks people had written online and we both tried each night but it's like playing a slot machine!

Give up on packet 3 and just look at the website for packet 3 and 4. http://mumbai.usconsulate.gov/ivforms.html

I am sure there is nothing that special in the version they mail you and to date I have not received a single piece of real mail from Mumbai.Even our interview letter was a printout of the soft copy I had asked VFS to email us. VFS "preponed" our interview because of the fact that we had such a hard time getting things done. THe instructions do say to mail it but I have read of other people emailing it to VFS. Packet 3 and 4 are almost the same and part of it will get submitted at VFS a few days before your interview, the rest you will bring with you. I think they can schedule the interview with just the 230 Part 1 but I am not certain if that is their normal course of action.

Thanks for your reply... sorry for the delayed response tho...

By this time your interview would have been done too :)

Yes we have forgotten about Packet 3. Right now concentrating on Packet 4. And kinda clueless when this DS 230 form acknowledgement will come thru for us. Waiting and waiting... pretty much all we can do...

VFS guys tell us it takes 4-6 weeks for the DS 230 to be processed and all that #######..

pfewww! tired already...

neways do update how ur intervu went?
