More interview documentation questions

I'm going over the interview checklist and realized I have more questions. I'm the USC.

"All documentation establishing your eligibility for Lawful Permanent Resident Status" - what are they looking for here? Isn't that what all this stuff we're submitting is?

"Your petitioner's birth certificate and your petitioner's evidence of United States Citizenship" - Isn't my birth certificate my evidence of US citizenship? I don't have anything else. I've never had a passport.

"Birth Certificates for all children of this marriage, and custody papers for your children and for your spouse's children not living with you" - My husband doesn't have any children. I have 2 children from a previous marriage for which I share custody. Do I need to bring something about this? We don't have "custody papers" but the custody arrangement is dealt with in the divorce judgement/settlement agreement. Is that what they want?

"A certified copy of your Marriage Document issued by the appropriate civil authority." - That just means the copy I got from the county clerk, right?

Thanks in advance for your help. Panic is setting in here.

If you have a US birth certificate you are fine. They want either a passport or birth certificate to make sure you are a citizen. Your marriage certificate from the county clerk should be fine if the seal is raised. I'm not sure about your children, I think they just care about any children you and your current husband might have to further prove the marriage is not a fake. But if you don't have any then don't worry about it.

This answer is just based on my own experience in the same process. Get more answers to be sure though.

EDIT: Sorry I misread your first question. Proof of eligibility for permanent residence would be an I-94, stamp in your husbands passport, etc. Basically something that shows that he entered the country legally.

The interview notice asks for "custody papers for your children and your spouse's children not living with you".

We don't have children together, but I'm his spouse and I have children. They aren't asking about them?

Or are they asking about previous spouse's he might have?

Ok, so they don't care about who has custody of my children from my previous marriage(I'm the petitioner)?

I thought maybe they wanted to see if I was paying child support or something.

I really shouldn't have waited until the last minute to put my interview stuff together. Someday, I might stop procrastinating.

Anyway, I have more questions.

I've got pictures of various events from the past few years -his first time coming here, holidays, vacations, etc. Lots of pics of him with my kids or other family members. A few with me (usually I'm behind the camera). Lots with our dog (who's dead now. :( ) I don't have really any pictures of our "wedding" because we got married in Reno at a cheesy chapel. Neither of us really thought about pictures at the time. Something about being nervous.

We have a joint lease, joint bank account, joint health insurance, joint credit card, and he's the beneficiary on my life insurance. We have some receipts showing both our names (mostly from the vet when the dog died. :( ) We have several cards from different occasions sent to both of us. I have an affidavit from a friend that says how much we love each other and that we are a real couple. We don't have any joint bills. Everything was already in my name before he came here and they wouldn't let us change it.

I know that sounds like a lot, but here are our redflags - I'm 9 years older and my divorce was finalized 3 weeks before we got married. We also don't have wedding rings (we couldn't afford nice ones and neither of us wanted to waste money on cheap ones just for show.)

So my question is this, I could print various emails and chats from when we first met up until when he started living here. Most of them would be very personal and/or inappropriate. I kind of figured I'd only pull those out if I really needed to. Do I have enough evidence, considering our redflags, to skip the emails/chats? I have about 5000, but I'd have to really sort through them to make sure I only came up with "good" ones.

Anyone have an opinion?

Thank you for your response. The USA is stuck with me though, I was born here. My husband is Canadian.

You're probably right though, I'm panicking over nothing. (I'm a little prone to that.)

And, for the record, I think your newborn trumps my bank statements. :P

Thanks for starting this thread, Dandt as you know I had very similar questions regarding: "...and custody papers for your children and for your spouse's children not living with you..." (which I read as me- USC spouse - with noncustodial kids and MY plans for my kids who are not related to my non-USC beneficiary wife)

For what it's worth, I posted same query over on british expats forum and got same feedback, that they are not interested in sponsor's non custodial kids, care plans, custody agreement etc.
