Hi everyone, sorry if this topic has already been discussed but I have been curious about it. I see people saying their petition has been "touched" various times during the process. What does that officially mean and how do you know it's been touched? I've been checking ever since I received my Receipt Notice Form I-797 over 1 month ago and it seems to be frozen in time and space :P. No, but really I know it takes a while to really hear about anything but these "touches" have me a bit curious.. could someone explain them a little more to me? Thank you very much for reading :)

It is just an update of the date on the status. It probably means that someone scanned the file, or moved it or sneezed on it, ;). It could mean anything or nothing. Some people don't get any.

Same here. Ours hasn't been touched since June 11th (our NOA1 date!) and I believe you can see this when you log into the USCIS page (not case status) and it shows a date of when your file was last updated....

April 30th 2011 Met in Las Vegas, NV at Paris Resort and Casino

June 4th 2012 Mailed I-129F from Salt Lake City, UT to Dallas, TX

June 6th 2012 Received in Dallas

June 11th 2012 Text/E-mail of NOA1

June 14th 2012 Received hardcopy of NOA1

August 16th 2012 Received text/e-mail of NOA2

August 27th 2012 NVC received petition

Sep 3rd 2012 Received Packet 3 from London Embassy

The touch means somebody got your case in their desk and it will be touch everytime they do something with it. You can check it by logging in to your account in the uscis and the date of the last update is the touch date. Our was touch only once 15 days after our NOA1 date and nothing till our approval date that was almost 6 months after with no RFE.

Good luck!

A touch can mean as little as your file has moved from one desk to another. It may have been scanned at that time and registered as a 'touch'. Many go right through to approval (NOA2) and beyond and their status never shows a touch so its of no real significance.

Mar 2011 - After 5mths denied for lost docs - Attempts to follow up failed. Mar 18 2012 - I-129F sent - No sign of NOA1 but they have banked the check...Jul 24 - Update - USCIS has located our file
Infopass Apt - they sorted through everything - our 2011 and 2012 file keep getting mixed up - getting us a Case# (still waiting) Dec- Infopass Appt- expecting to get a case # in about a week ..Still no Case number

Mar 2013 Infopass - advised file was in a box somewhere, and it would be quicker for us to refile. Life gets in the way... New petition submitted July 2014 .

What they said. It doesn't really matter or mean anything. Lots of people get their NOA2 without ever getting a 'touch' on their online updates. We never got 'touched' either.
