Mitt Romney is a fan of Israeli health care

“Do you realize what health care spending is as a percentage of the G.D.P. in Israel? Eight percent,” he said. “You spend eight percent of G.D.P. on health care. You’re a pretty healthy nation. We spend 18 percent of our G.D.P. on health care, 10 percentage points more. That gap, that 10 percent cost, compare that with the size of our military — our military which is 4 percent, 4 percent. Our gap with Israel is 10 points of G.D.P. We have to find ways — not just to provide health care to more people, but to find ways to fund and manage our health care costs.”

Wikipedia's description of Israeli health care. Does it sound familiar? It should.

Health care in Israel is universal and participation in a medical insurance plan is compulsory. Health care coverage is administered by a small number of organizations, with funding from the government. All Israeli citizens are entitled to the same Uniform Benefits Package, regardless of which organization they are a member of, and treatment under this package is funded for all citizens regardless of their financial means.

Never mind if it upsets anyone, it'll be more fuel for the Iran war he is going to start!

His supporters have been ubiquitously quiet about this last faux pas. When the POTUS spends money on infrastructure they consider it a waste, but building a brand new embassy seems to qualify as acceptable.

When Rmoney says he is going to create jobs, if elected, we should ask him in which country he is panning to do so, considering his track record. So far anew embassy in Jerusalem would represent job creation for at least a couple of hundred Israelis...

He just doesn't want the money to go to the "poor". What about in America? He hasn't said once how he is going to create jobs here or how he is going to fund his tax plan. Somehow he has lots of money for this but nothing else? If he can't figure out what he is doing here how does he have the authority to talk about other countries?

I think he is planning to exterminate the poor as a means to get rid of poverty altogether! Seriously, he makes W seem like a statesman!

Um, there is already a fully operational consulate in Jerusalem, so it's not as if anything is going to be "built." They would just change its name from consulate to embassy and move some staff there.

I know right? I said it before, I think I miss W. :crying: At least we could laugh at Bush messing up, Romney makes my skin crawl.

It would still cost a lot of money to change everything to being in Jerusalem. Meanwhile we can't afford teachers here in USA.

I think the Israelis will take exception with that too. Embassies are placed at the capital city only, so the political implication of Romney's faux pas is that he is telling the Israelis that the US will no longer consider Tel Aviv as the capital of their country. So far he's telling the Israelis how to run their own country.

It begs the question as to whether Israel will move its Embassy to New York or L.A. just for kicks...

In addition, the buildings on Agron are not spacious enough to accommodate the entire embassy and consular staff. People are crammed in there as is.

It would cost billions upon billions to move the entire capital of Israel to Jerusalem so that Romney can put his embassy there...

Could it be possible that we will actually end up smiling back a W if Romney is elected?

Maybe we can fire all the teachers, police and firemen, who needs them anyway? This is far more important!

Could it be possible that we will actually end up smiling back a W if Romney is elected?

What a horrible thought, but it looks like it don't you think?

I am sorry, but you are talking out of your ####. Jerusalem is already the capital!!!

I could explain the issue (which is decades old), but it's a waste of energy.
