Evidence of Engagement, AGAIN?

Dear Vj's,

I just received the letter from my consulate in Frankfurt telling us to go ahead and fill out the many forms. On one of the forms it says, however, that we need to attach evidence of financial support, copy of passport.... AND evidence of engagement.

What do they mean by this?? We submitted a whole file with photos, credit card transactions, flight tickets etc etc back in January when we sent the application to the Vermont Service Center. Isn't the consulate supposed to get that or do we REALLY need to do the whole thing again? Puh...

Thanks so much in advance for your responses, and good luck to everybody!

Ana

Does it say you need to submit that evidence with the forms you mail to the consulate, or does it say you need to gather that evidence for the interview? Most consulates don't collect the affidavit of support until the interview, and they DO expect the beneficiary to have sufficient evidence to support their claim of a relationship at the interview.

12/15/2009 - K1 Visa Interview - APPROVED!

12/29/2009 - Married in Oakland, CA!

08/18/2010 - AOS Interview - APPROVED!

05/01/2013 - Removal of Conditions - APPROVED!

Thanks for your answer. It's the 156K form that says please attach a. b. c. I thought that the Vermont Visa Center would send the package to Frankfurt. Obviously they don't though... so now we need to do the whole thing again.

The K-1 visa is a two stage process. The petition which the USC files in the US and pays the fees for. Once that is approved it is sent to your local Embassy for issuance of the visa. You fill out more forms and more evidence and pay more fees, like the visa fee, and the medical fee. It is a good bet that Vermont forwarded the information to the Embassy. I would take the requested information to the interview just in case--unless it specifically request you mail the information to them again. You think the fees are bad now wait until you have to shell out $1070 to file the AOS.

Good luck,

Dave

There are 2 steps to go through in order to obtain your K-1 visa. The first step, the USC needs to file a petition on your behalf so that you can be eligible to FILE for the visa. Filing for the actual visa happens AFTER the approval of the I-129f petition. The petition has its own fee, and the visa has a different fee. Sure there is a lot of money involved in this whole process, but its the price we pay to bring our loved ones here so we can be together.

Yes, thank you so much for your answers. I already filled out the forms and paid the fee. Like you said, it is a little price to pay in order to be with our loved ones. It's just very confusing sometimes..

Best to you all as well!
