I'm making an appointment with my doctor to get y medical records so that I know which vaccinations i need so I can get the done before my medical in London. Im 29 so do I just need the immunizations that are listed in that aged bracket or do I need to have all of the ones from the younger age brackets as well?

Thanks

Dean

Only those listed as appropriate for your current age.

Td or Tdap - or DT, DTP or DtaP and it will be accepted (must be within last 10 years)

MMR (if born in 1957 or later)

Varicella – Not routinely given in the UK ; a history of having chickenpox excuses you from the shot. They take your word for it at the visa medical exam. Or in the case of a CR1 visa, you get excused because it's not available. (A K1 who didn't have chickenpox would have opportunity to get the shot in the US prior to adjusting status.)

Influenza - During flu season only, October 1 through March 31. This was a new recommendation dated November 2010 for all ages over 6 months. Older lists will say flu shots for over age 50. It changed.

Also for a CR1, if there is any reason why you can't have a shot at the time of your medical, you get a waiver for it. (Like pregnancy and MMR, or allergic reactions to certain components.) Immigration is not held up, for example in the case of pregnancy and MMR.

Phone and ask to speak to the Nurse. Almost all NHS GP surgerys have a nurse that comes in 3 days a week to do injections for people. Explain to her what you need, its likley they will have done the same for other US visas at some pit in time

The Dr will just refer you to the nurse so you will be wasting you time.

I only needed to get DTP. They also took a blood test to check for chicken pox which came back say I was immune. MMR I had as a kid and Influenza I am out of season. I passed me medical last week.

great thanks for that. Is there a specific form I ask for that the doctors?

Anything that lists your immunization history and has a name/address of the doctor clinic and a signature/date (or maybe a stamp) to show it's from a real doctor's office. My husband's shot nurse hand wrote it on letterhead. Others get a computer printout. If you have the little childhood book many have, that also proves to Knightsbridge what you had in the past.

Please note: The USA requires 2 doses of MMR. So........

  • If you have record of 2 as a child, then your are fine.
  • If you only have record of one as a child, another is needed.
  • If you have no record as a child, then you need to get at least one. If four weeks pass before you see Knightsbridge you will need dose #2. If you get dose #1 and four weeks have not passed when you see Knightsbridge, you get a waiver because it would be medically inappropriate to get dose #2 until four weeks had passed after the first dose.

You do not need to prove chickenpox so don't ask for a blood test to prove immunity. Tell Knightsbridge you had chickenpox and they take your word. Be convincing. Say "I had it in the summer when I was seven years old." Hahaha--what I mean is don't say "I might have had it but I don't know for sure".

Nich-Nick, since you are so knowledgeable and really helpful, I have got a wee question re vaccinations. I had the medical this morning and I "had to" do the 1st shot of the MMR despite having done Measles vaccine when I was little, had mumps and rubella clinically. I decided to get it done altho it cost £38..So she ticked me as "Vaccine History Incomplete" & "Applicant may be eligible for blanket waiver(s) because vaccination(s) not medically appropriate"

And then gave me a small leaflet to give the doctor when I am going to get the 2nd shot.

On your experience do I really need to get the 2nd shot? thanks :)

Nope. As long as your DS-3025 has those things mentioned above..MMR, Tdap variation, and VH written out beside varicella AND your medical forms are not lost by USCIS then you would be okay. If they lose your file (it happens) then you'd have to get a whole new medical in the US and your immunizations signed off again. So by then, four weeks would have passed and the "insufficient time interval" excuse for a waiver no longer applies.

But assuming it will all go smoothly and you have MMR, Tdap variation, and VH written, then USCIS goes by the date your Knightsbridge form was signed. You were complete as possible because it is medically inappropriate for you to have dose 2 for four weeks. No second doses needed to please immigration. Also even if your AOS is decided in the middle of flu season, no flu shot needed because your were up to date on the day your DS-3025 shot form was signed. You do not have to see a civil surgeon or do an I-693 in the US if you got it right at Knightsbridge.

You were smart to pay for the shot and get the DS3025 complete so you don't have to go through the civil surgeon hassles in the US. The ones who have no MMR recorded and think they will save a few quid by going to NHS later are in for a surprise come AOS time. If it's not marked on the DS-3025, then they will spend many quid having a civil surgeon do a new form. Yay you!

Thanks :) I remembered reading abt the hassle of getting a vaccination later to save a few quid and get that sort of surprise! She did say "u can get it at your GP and send the info over to the clinic so we could get it updated" But I preferred to go the "safe" way!

I guess that I was confused about the 4wks as insufficient time interval in terms of: 4wks and more will pass by the time I get to file AOS! but I believe its not a matter of counting them then, it just applies should I have to go thro another medical in the US because they lost my medical docs.. I so hope they do not lose them!! :)

The lady at Knightsbridge is a little misleading to folks and I think it's because she doesn't really know immigration and AOS. They didn't always write on the form another shot was due. It's not even in the panel physicians instructions to do that. I'm on my iPad at Starbucks so have no bookmarks to offer you links to where I get all this stuff, but I have studied the medical aspect since 2008, read volumes, written the contractor company that open the AOS applications, commented on USCIS portal, and discussed it with US Rep Ron Paul. Most importantly, people PM me and tell me they were successful with only their DS3025 and not getting the second MMR when the first was all they could get at the time because of the interval required before dose 2. No guarantees that your adjudicator will have read his field manual but you should be done with things medical for AOS.

not my GP! That practice didn't even want to run a blood test as a check up.......! but thx!

I had the DTP done at my GP and I knew I could have needed the MMR too, but didn't have much time and didn't want to get two different shots done on the same day either! Plus my GP is in Edinburgh and I have been down in London for a month (I'm here just temporarily).

So took my chances but it's fine. This £38 dont' sound so bad compared to an incomplete vaccination file! ;)

and discussed it with US Rep Ron Paul.

my fiance is a big follower of Ron Paul, if I tell him he's gonna join this community just to talk to you!!! lol

Well I am so not political. Ron lives in my small town and was our local OB-Gyn before he started running for offices. I will say he is honest, has a fine family, and is very sincere about his beliefs, no matter what one thinks about his political agenda.

Not accusing you of having this opinion Nick Nick but I think one of the biggest issues with US politics is people care to much about whether someone has a good family, never done drugs etc.

I see the Democrats pushing stories about Romney picking on soembody in High School.....who didn't. I see the republicans talking about Obama smoking weed.

Bill Clinton was probably the best US president in recent times and he allegedly had multiple affairs. Same as JFK. Will they do a good job is all that should matter.

.

This isn't about politics and I never said I did or did not support RP politically. I discussed immigration with him as a neighbor guy who rides his bike around town and happens to be a medical doctor and congressman. Speaking of him as a small community member for 30ish years, he and Carol are respectable people...end of story with no political intent.
