Affidavit of support i-864 for filing a IR-1/CR-1, what are the restrictions on type of income?

I am going to list military retired pension and Veterans Compensation disability pay. I know SSDI is not acceptable, anyone have insight on this?

Does it have to be from a actual working job?

Who has a job when they are a permanent resident overseas?

Thanks :)

Looks like the sponsor of a i-864 is liable for their wife and stepchild until they become USA citizens, or after they accomplish 40 quarters of work [after 10 yrs].

What happens if the sponsor dies before these requirements are met, to the green card holders at that time?

I understand the USA Government doesn't want the financial liability of immigrants brought over, but besides a sponsor to help the petitioner, how do they expect people to have 125% over the poverty income if they live overseas?

:)

From what I understand any income you receive is OK. Military retired pay, Social Security, anything you receive were you get a w-2 or 1040 is good to go. No matter if you have to pay taxes on it or not. Good luck and thanks for your service.

Veterans Disability is fine. If that is all you have, you won't have been filing tax returns and the income will be documented with a recent award letter. You'll simply indicate in the past tax return area of the affidavit, the following. "Not required to file. All income is tax free."
