Got my birth Certificate back on July 17 2012. The same one I sent in with the K-1 Visa packet with nothing else attached. Its been a week or so and no word on the NOA 2 yet. What is happening? Obviously someone looked at the packet. What are they waiting on? Frustrating

I would love to answer your question but do not follow... you send you birth cert on its own? or you received it from USCIS?

I second sabi.. I'm sorry, but I don't follow.

Did you get an RFE? Is that what happened? If you did, you can update your timeline, and it will automatically recalculate your estimated date of adjudication; that way you'll get a better idea as to when you might get NOA2.

if USCIS sent you your birth cert and you are the beneficiary I think they have just returned to you what they didn't need. If you are the petitioner and the birth cert is the USC one, then I would call them to check what happened.

As for your NOA2, since you are a March filer, you are still within the processing time...

I am the petitioner and my birth certificate was used to prove my US citizenship. It was sent in with the K-1 Visa packet. There was no RFE. I sent in my K-1 Visa packet and was sent back my US birth certificate.

Nothing attached, no reason, no RFE, no explanation ... it is odd. Tried calling the 1-800 number just get a machine. How do I get to talk to a real person???

you get to a real person after you hear the info about your petition and then they give you options and you choose "problem with your petition" (or sth like that) so you choose that and they will connect you with a customer representative :)

I called and got a real person. Thank you for you help Sabi. It seems they made a copy of my birth certificate and sent it back. The lady on the phone was very nice and told me they have assigned my fiancee' an A number which she said was a good thing and I should expect to be approved soon. What is the A number? Alien number I'm thinking.

Alien Registration Number (“A” Number) or Alien Number

A unique seven-, eight- or nine-digit number assigned to a non-citizen at the time his or her A-file is created. The 9-digit U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services number listed on the front of Permanent Resident Cards (Form I-551) issued after May 10, 2010, is the same as the Alien Registration Number. The A-number can also be found on the back of these Permanent Resident Cards. http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.eb1d4c2a3e5b9ac89243c6a7543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=515cfb41c8596210VgnVCM100000b92ca60aRCRD&vgnextchannel=515cfb41c8596210VgnVCM100000b92ca60aRCRD

For a K-1, the A# will be found above the beneficiary's name on the I-129F NOA2 approval notice.

Ahhh ok. It all made sense after you gave us more information.

Remember to ALWAYS mail copies of original documentation. You only show originals at face-to-face interviews.

if they assigned the A number that's a great sign. meaning they are working on your file and you should hear really soon! :)
