I met my boyfriend while studying in Germany, and now that he is finishing in PhD in chemistry he wants to move to the US. He is hoping to find work as an analytic chemist in a laboratory or research facility.

How do you go about finding an employer that would be willing to take on the hassle of sponsoring a foreigner?

Can he just apply to any regular job listing?

The employer is paying for the visa and the attorney time to do the filing. Not something that any regular listing is likely to encompass.

As Boiler suggests, professional networking is a good place to start.

If the goal is to get him here quickly(ish), then get married to him and petition for a spouse visa.

I thought the H1B visa was capped for the current year with the next allotment of 65,000 allowing applications starting in April 2013?

Unless it is a non profit.

Simple question would the work he is looking for as analyst, does this job have shortage of resource meaning not enough USC or Perm resident available to do similar job?

Easier way would be work for some company in Germany and do a L1 or networking as recommended.

Now days its little difficult to get H1 with slow economy and additional cost the employer has to pay lot of the employer are staying away from the filing H1.

L-1 require to work for an employer for at least a year.

Btw - economy is without doubt slow, what I am curious about is why quota was gone so quickly this year then...

yes L1 does require 1 year of working for the same employer in home country, thought it might be little bit viable option for someone just getting out of the college.

There are lot of international students who still need H1, if they want to continue to stay in US and work in US.
