Hello Everyone,

I am a non US citizen just got married with American citizen and now living in the US, However, I am here got married on a tourist visa. We got married last week. I have been in US for approximately 120 days. My tourist visa expires in 2014, but according to the I-94 I must leave the country by November 8, 2012.

I have been with my fiance (now my husband) for about 3 years and he has traveled to my country and I have been to USA several times. I do not want to be deported or returned to Indonesia after marriage. What do my fiance and I have to do in order to avoid problem with immigration and adjustment of status.

And will i be able to get SSN as soon i got my a certified copy of marriage certificate and what is requirement to get SSN.

Thank you,

MSN

Cheers, Kittys

you have no problem, and you won't be deported lol.. Just try to go over the VJ guide I-485 and I 130 for Concurrent filling and you will be fine.

Your Husband should petition you for a green card and there are a lot of forms both of you needs to fill, you need also your Birth Certificate. you need to do a medical exam I693, also you husband should make above the poverty line which approx. 19k . you need to read a lot about this process to avoid mistakes.

and you can ask any question in future if you have any doubts , but first start reading about the process to get familiar with it. also read the directions for each form. and the most important start gathering joint documents and pictures

you need to do that before you send your AOS package to USCIS. the exam should be done by an approved civil surgeon by USCIS. the cost it varies between place to place . I did it for $ 100 and it depends if you have your Vaccine record , if you don't it will cost you more, since you have to do them. you can search on the forum for the list of cheap Doctors.

You cannot apply for a social security number before filing the AOS paperwork. If you get an EAD, and then you get a job offer, I am pretty sure you can apply for a SSN then as you'll need it for tax purposes. You'll definitely be able to get one after you have the GC.

If you read the instructions for forms I-130 and I-485, and the VJ guide for AOS, they clearly lay out the process and explain what you need to include. You have to get the medical done by a certified civil surgeon before sending out the AOS package. The medical will cost you anything between $150-$300 probably, depending on where you are and how many vaccinations you'll need. the AOS fees are also listed on the USCIS website - it's $420 for the I-130, and $1,070 for I-485 with the biometrics fee. I would stay that altogether, with the fees, medical, copies, passport photos etc. it'll come to around $2,000.
