DCF always faster?

My husband and I are both living in Guatemala and are ready to file our I-130 petition. I am the USC and he is Guatemalan. We entered EWI and was deported in absentia so we will be needing waivers. If we wait 3 more months we are able to do Direct Consular Filing. Or we can file now through the United States and have family members or a lawyer take care of our papers.

Is it worth the 3 month wait or should we file ASAP through the US?

DOes anyone have information on how much faster DCF actually is?

Thanks!

If you apply via DCF, you will have a wait of three months + I-130 processing time (one day? Maybe one week).

If you apply via the US, you will have a wait of 6+ months for the Service Center and another 4-6 months at the NVC.

At the conclusion of either of the above, the Consular Section schedules a visa interivew, during which the EWI will be denied. Then you begin the waiver application.

Depending on the consulate or embassy the US citizen may have to have been a resident of the foreign country for a certain amount of time before they can file for DCF this varies from country to country, so it may or may not be faster depending on how long the US Citizen has lived in the foreign country.

See the Guides:
