How do you open a joint bank account when living in different countries???

I am in the USA, my fiance is in the Philippines.

What I do in terms of bank accounts is I set up my Wells Fargo account to transfer straight to her BPI (Bank of the Philippine Islands) account. It costs us $5 per transfer and I have a history of all the transactions (to prove that I have been supporting her).

I don't know if your bank has such arrangements but Wells Fargo does with a few banks in the Philippines.

We also Skype (watched 'The Notebook' together and though I have seen it dozens of times, I tear up on some scenes with her. It was pretty romantic actually watching a movie together via Skype). We have Skyped daily but even with Skype, it puts a tremendous strain on two people who want to be within inches of each other every single day of their lives. The strain leads to fights and make up sessions, just like a regular relationship with the big thing missing: hugs and kisses.

This entire, inhumane process, is one big test of love for those involved.

Hi guys,

My darling Eric and I got married in Edinburgh on the 25th,I dropped him at Manchester airport today and to be honest I feel awful,I'm so angry with this whole process, that we have to live apart for goodness knows how long whilst the CR1 is completed,I know you all must have felt or feel the same way:-(

Aaaaanyway,I have a question, we recieved a few cheques as wedding gifts in our married name, yet we haven't got a joint bank account yet seeing as he's in the US and I'm in the UK........is there anyway we can open one whilst being so far apart? Or will I have to get the kind folks that sent us the cheques to redo them just in my name?

Also any tips in coping on having your spouse on the other side of the world would be greatly appreciated

I skype every day with my fiance, it helps but nothing will replace being there with them. I email as well just to let her know I'm thinking of her during the day too.

You guys are awesome, Im so tearful right now. I feel like one half of me is missing, I know you all understand that feeling. It helps knowing we're not alone in this, although Im sorry we have to go through it.

I guess the best bet is to contact my bank, I'm starting to inform all my bill providers etc tomorrow about my change of name,so Im thinking when I've informed the bank I'll ask if they'll accept the joint cheque.

Eric and I Skype for hours, we read the daily newspapers and put the world to rights, I think I'm ok with our communication together its more about how to cope alone......here in the UK without him.

I keep looking down at my wedding ring, and at our gifts and cards.......the wedding balloons are sat deflating now. It's just so lonely without him here.

I'm looking into visiting for a while during the proccess but afraid it will effect my chances of being approved. Im always given such a hard time at RDU POE even though Ive never overstayed and am a model citizen whilst in the US (and of course here!!!! )

I'm going to get my passport photo's done tomorrow and get them in the post so he can file the I-130,I sent him back with copies of my birth certificate and other various papers he may need. I can't believe I was 34 when I met him,and I'll be nearly 40 by the time this whole process is completed, its been a long haul and a rollercoaster ride but I wouldn't change meeting him for one second.

I may however be a bit loopy at the end of it all!!!!

aw i know the feeling :( but its grateful to have the skype moments together than other couples who see each other everyday , live very close on each other but never give importance on how luck they are and ended up cheating or having so much misunderstandings.. as far as i know we are lucky to have this kind of relationship, it strengthens our foundation of love and give us more hope and faith.. as God planned this very well for the goodness of each and every one.. im blessed to have a long distance relationship plus a partner that give me so much understanding, faithfulness , love .. After all the long journey ,,its worth the wait right :luv: any way sory for posting about the skype thing hihi i am just reading the comments and i cant help but say something about the skype moments coz thats how we do it too hihi( i know i am out of the topic about joint bank acc  .). congrats on your wedding (L) (L) (L)

When Glenn and I are apart it's SKYPE for us as well. We have date nights and share as many meal times as possible. When we are just hanging around the house it is comforting to hear each other puttering doing normal day to day things. We even sleep with SKYPE going so I can hear his breathing and even his snoring lulls me to sleep.

It is a very trying time for all of us in the times of separation so that is why reaching out to others here is a good plan....

We all care about each others outcomes. We also have the commonality of this process.

So here we are to help you through this.

hugs

Terri

I keep saying this but you guys really are awesome......

Thankyou so much for the well wishes and suggestions.

I'm going to start to put together anything I think we may need during the CR1 process, keep me focused.

It was awful not waking up beside my new husband this morning, for a moment I searched for him.

I have his night shirt that he left me,I will cuddle it at night.....I'd imagine you guys all leave each other clothing etc

Its bizzare to think just yesterday I was with him and now hes almost 4000 miles away. Bloody Atlantic Ocean!!!!

Anyway,Im going tomorrow to get some passport photo's done and post them off asap. I also need to change my passport now so best get on with that too, just in case we decide to try for the visit.

We should all take our cases to the court of human rights because this sure as hell feels cruel to me!!!!!

Im a novice right now but will be posting words of encouragment, thanks again lovely people!!!
