Maybe in 100 years. I heard a number of disparaging remarks about both black people and women during the run up to the 2008 election. It's definitely a tough choice for the extreme right and the rednecks.

and I have heard tons of disparaging racist remarks from left wing kooks and all the 100 of thousands of people who openly support Obama only because he is black. In fact I believe jesse Jackson himself called Obama a N-word.. The same Jesse Jackson who called for a Ban on the word, and lead a protest against ex -Seinfield start M Richards who used the word. Then there is all the black Panther stuff. I could go on and on. Below is a little link. If you want to see real racism hit it.

the comments levied at palin on this site weren't exactly roses and sunshine either, so the bigotry does (unfortunately) cut across party lines.

The Dem party is full of racist starting with Chicago.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Far far worse things were said about Hillary Clinton than Palin imo, but yes I agree.

There were some truly shocking commentaries during the build up to the last presidential election - to the point that you'd think it wasn't about politics at all.

Are you really serious? The liberal media went viral on Palin. They invented the whole I can see Russia from here thing, by totally twisting a comment she made. SNL Tina Fey became famous for trying to Make Palin look dumb. They painted her as unmercifully, unrelenting and non-stop as an idiot.

Really you jest.

I know of extreme right wingers who didn't vote for McCain because of Palin. It's really widespread here, women are at the bottom of the pile. :P

Wow, that's really disgusting. I'm surprised that is in the Jackson area. I know of interracial marriages being denied in the "country" in Mississippi, it wouldn't happen here on the coast. It's really quite appalling that this goes on.

Mississippi still has problems like this too:

NETTLETON-MIDDLE-SCHOOL-SEGREGATION-MEMO.jpg

black children are not eligible to run for the position of class president or secretary-treasurer. Those roles are available only for their white counterparts, the notice indicates; however, they are able campaign for the title of vice president or reporter, and it seems white children are not allowed to vie for those specific posts.

...

Brandy Springer pulled her two children from the school after her 12-year-old daughter, who is half native-American and in the 6th grade, was told she didn't meet the qualifications to run for the office of reporter on grounds that she was not black, the AP reports.

According to the website MixedandHappy, Springer's daughter was told "she should run for class president, that was open to only white students." When the Nettleton mother initially took the matter up with the school board to inquire about which racial category her daughter fell under given her mixed-race, she was told, "Go by the mother's race b/c with minorities the father isn't generally in the home," and that "a city court order is the reason why it is this way."

Not at all. You need only look back to 2008 to see what people were saying about Hillary on here during the primaries. It wasn't pretty.

The "Russia from my house" thing wasn't twisted. She flunked that Katie Couric interview - coming across as neither knowledgable or authoritative. If her treatment by the tabloid media was a feeding frenzy that's not really surprising, given that she was playing a game where people live and die on their public reputation. If you aspire to the second highest office in the land and can't answer simple questions - you deserve what you get.

McCain bet his campaign on Palin because his advisors thought a younger 'maverick' running mate would help him win over religious conservatives.

It's like putting your car keys on the table an going all-in on a game of Texas hold 'em with an Ace High.
