In 112f where outside exposure must be limited? :P Can't wait for October!

A HEAT ADVISORY MEANS THAT A PERIOD OF HOT TEMPERATURES IS EXPECTED. THE COMBINATION OF HOT TEMPERATURES AND HIGH HUMIDITY WILL COMBINE TO CREATE A SITUATION IN WHICH HEAT ILLNESSES ARE POSSIBLE. DRINK PLENTY OF FLUIDS... STAY IN AN AIR-CONDITIONED ROOM... STAY OUT OF THE SUN... AND CHECK UP ON RELATIVES AND NEIGHBORS.

I guess on election day I'll just travel over town and vote like 40 times at different precincts with no ID under different names and addresses. Since I have a car (with very cold air conditioning), drivers license, and gas money, my vote is 40Xs more important than people that do not have such luxuries.

So you do make a good point. You're starting to make me see this voter ID thing is bad idea.

I said it stops people from voting. If we lived in a perfect world where everyone had spare money, could get time off work and had transportation it would be fine, but we don't.

I'd say it stops people voting that shouldn't be voting, and also stops people from voting multiple times.

This guy seemed to work it out being a Democrat in Texas of all place. I guess someone shouldn't have shot his dog.

According to Wilson himself, he first entered politics as a teenager by running a campaign against his next-door neighbor, city council incumbent Charles Hazard. When thirteen years old, Wilson's fourteen year old dog entered Hazard's yard. Hazard retaliated by mixing crushed glass into the dog's food, causing fatal internal bleeding. Following this incident, Wilson obtained a driver's permit and drove ninety-six voters, primarily black citizens from poor neighborhoods, to the polls in his family's two-door Chevrolet. As patrons left the car, Wilson told each of them that he didn't want to influence their vote, but that the incumbent Hazard had purposely killed his dog. After Hazard was defeated by a margin of 16 votes, Wilson went to his house to tell him he shouldn't poison any more dogs. Wilson cited this as "the day [he] fell in love with America."[6]

You're right, it is fascist.

A large number of people get away with voting illegally? Show me the numbers.

These are the facts and I live in a city. A large number of people in this state live in rural locations and are living in poverty. Go read about the delta.

Polling station, 0.5miles away. DMV 15 miles away. There is no public transportation to the DMV.

See again. No way do I want someone who hasn't ever traveled more than 15 miles from their home since they've turned 18 in the voting pool. What are these the people in Idaho held up in their fortresses with stockpiles or canned food waiting for the government to come and get them?

I wonder what Martin Luther Kind would think about someone saying they couldn't vote because they would have to walk 15 miles to get an I.D.

This is a hypothetical: what if government took it upon itself to reach out to each individual voter (less than what they do for the census) and facilitate the procurement of the proper identification documents at no upfront cost? Would conservatives be ok with that? Or is jumping through hoops seen as a test of character?

Posted

The issue is not about providing ID but the difficulty people have in obtaining the ID, from the inability to get to the DMV to not being able to afford the documents required to get the ID.

An ID is needed to obtain welfare benefits. Your arguement of being to poor to obtain an ID doesn't hold water.

I've told you this before. My nearest DMV is 15 miles away. Medicare office, less than 5 miles. Wic, 1 mile. Etc etc.

What about the poor folks on welfare that live closer to the DMV than they do the Medicare or Wic office, how do they manage to trek the 15 miles to get their free stuff?

That would be the correct way to do it and they could tie it with the next census; distribute the necessary forms so that everyone could apply for a national voting card with a picture, which should replace the DL as identification for all purposes.

Ok, I'm a democrat (sorta) and I don't want people f'ing with our elections. So to me, an ID is a given. I don't know how much problem voter fraud actually is. But, I want our elections to be clean and fair.

Any citizen can get an ID. Seriously. I've worked with very poor people my entire adult life, and I haven't met one yet that didn't know how to get an ID.

Sometimes these "debates" leave me speechless.

Giving illegals amnesty and making sure people don't have to have an ID to vote, is only done for one reason.
