Hello VJ,

I need your help you have been very helpful to a good friend of mine. I don't know if I am posting in the right place?

I posted about 6 months ago about my fiance who is here with me in the US he is from Cameroon he entered the country legally 6 years ago on a visiting visa and never went back home.

We have been together over a year (just trying to give you some background to our situation) 6 months ago he got into some trouble his daughter was visiting him from Paris and he left her with a friend and the friend left her alone its a crazy long story but he was arrested behind it for child neglect(felony).

We were supposed to marry when all this happened but he was arrested with no bond and he told them he had no passport or papers so he knew he was going to get deported so he told them he would voluntarily deport himself so I had accepted the fact that I would probably be going to Cameroon to marry him and he would have a 10 year ban.

To make this very long story short he did 4 months and it was dropped to a misdemeanor and the judge said he would be deported and he was going to ICE in 3 days hours later they set him free and he never looked back.I am telling you it is only by GOD that he got out of jail because he was supposed to be deported.

When he got home he still wanted to leave to go home because he was so traumatized but I begged him to stay to marry me to stay here and marry me so here we are he has been out for 3 months and we plan to marry in 2 weeks.

Please I need advice can anyone help me to tell me what to do after we marry? I will probably need to obtain a lawyer right?

My biggest question I am scared to know the answer because I just heard that you need all kinds of documents to get married is this true? I just thought you needed ID. He has a passport but it is expired will they still marry us I am scared to call and ask? I live in Georgia.

Thanks everyone for any advice it is greatly appreciated!!!!!
