Embassy Called after K1 Issuance

We have our K1 visa in hand, issued in May, expires in November. He hasn't entered the states yet.

The lady who interviewed us from the US Embassy Belize called today to ask when our wedding date is going to be (left a message with his mother). Why would she do this? It strikes me as very strange. In our original interview we told her some time in September.

Maybe to test your relationship or something? Maybe she didn't write it down or something? I wouldn't stress about it too bad. Just get him to call back. Maybe actually pick a date and then tell them.

It does bother me a bit.. I just didn't think it was normal for the embassy to call after they already issued the visa. I guess I'm the type who thinks people always have ulterior motives.

Is there anyone else out there that got a call after the visa was already issued?

Oh and thanks for your quick reply.. yes I am stressing a bit. My fiance is finishing up work before he moves and I'm just not gonna feel settled until is here with me.

This is odd, considering you don't have to have a date set before the visa is issued. Questions about the relationship are asked when you apply for a green card, although some embassies seem to ask relationship questions before issuing a visa.

I would surmise second thoughts from the Embassy Visa unit, given that several months have elapsed since visa issuance. Typically, K-1's launch almost immediately to the USA. Suggest you offer them a range of dates and leave it at that. I would not ignore the request.

She should have noted in our original interview that we said September.. it had been the plan from the start. He couldn't leave his job with short notice because he is a senior manager at a small business that is hard to replace. He didn't give notice until he had the visa in hand.

They can just have second thoughts based on the fact we didn't use the visa asap? I thought it would be a normal thing for people to want to get their affairs in order before they pick up and leave. This is a huge life change for him.

Also I should note we do have a date, I have bought my dress and booked our honeymoon hotel. I'm just nervous about calling the embassy back because from what I've read on this forum, this is not a normal thing.

You are spot on with everything you stated. However, the Consular Officer may have forgotten to notate the expected US arrival. Having worked for the DOS for many years overseas(not Consular section),I have heard of occasional follow ups. I suggest you await a second contact attempt, verify the phone number as legitimate and provide them a reminder of what you said above. You should not worry about this. It may only have been a slow day at this Embassy.

Ok, that sounds a bit better. Are they allowed to reverse their decision after issuance? If so, under what circumstances would they do so?

Yes, of course they can reverse decision and revoke a Visa at any time. However, this would be primarily due to discovery of hard evidence related to disqualifying factors.

That said, this appears to be a curiosity based "pulse" by a junior consular officer. I submit that Belize is not that busy with respect to K-1 visas. If this were a busier post, you would not have been contacted at all. If the phone record is still available, I suggest you validate the number with known US Embassy numbers. Otherwise, proceed as planned and if contacted again, validate the phone number and advise as suggested above. You will be fine.

2 months went by before i left, nothing weird about taking the time to finish up in home country. Don't plan until visa's in hand - which made the wait longer for us since I had to bring my german shepherd with me and get her last vacc. at least a month before but no more than 6 months before leaving, and then scheduling a time with the vet.

I do agree that calling the number that's on the documents given to you by the embassy/number from embassy webpage is a good idea, repeating what you already said at the interview. Maybe ask them if they indeed were the ones calling xx date at xx time.

When did your fiance have his medical done btw?
