Good afternoon my fellow VJers!

I thought I would never receive my NOA2 from VSC, but I miraculously received one. I must now start preparing for the NVC part of my journey. I have read multiple guides that were really awesome and answered a lot of my questions, but I still have a few questions that maybe you guys can help me out on. On to the questions!

1) Must we wait for the NVC's approval to send the DS230&I864 packets, or can we send them right when we receive the barcode after paying?

2a) Fortunately, I am working right now that sets me above poverty guidelines, and I do not have any dependents except for my wife. Am I sponsoring myself and filling my information out on the I864 application again?

2b) When checking with the IRS, my tax returns go as far back as only two years. So I have those, my employment letter, and my paystubs. I do not have previous W2s, as I have been working with this company since April, and I threw away my 2011 & 2010 W2s. This should be good, correct?

3) This question/request is sort of country specific, but for those applicants that require proof to receive the police report, ie Japan, how should we go about this process to make it go faster? They keep asking for proof; is a scanned copy of the NOA2 sufficient?

4) Are the originals absolutely necessary to be submitted with the DS230&I864?

If I have any further questions, I will edit my original post.

Thanks so much in advance for taking the time to read my questions and helping me out.

Cheers!!

Hi there,

Congratulations on your NOA2. I will try to answer your questions as best as I can.

Have a look at this NVC flowchart for further information about when you can send your documents to the NVC. http://www.visajourney.com/examples/NVC_Process_Flowchart_v1-2.pdf The first thing you need to do now is to call the NVC to check that they have received your file from the Vermont Service Centre. Once your file has been received and case number issued, then you will be invoiced for your AOS and IV bills. It is only once you have made these payments and the payment status is showing as PAID that you can proceed to send the paper work to the NVC. Also check out the thread for July NVC filers, as this has some very useful information.

To obtain a police certificate from Japan, check out this link http://japan.usembassy.gov/e/visa/tvisa-ivpolice.html which will provide you with further guidance. Documents can be EITHER original OR certified, so if you do not want to send original copies but obtain a certified copy from the relevant government entity this will be acceptable. Also check guidelines about IF Japanese documents need to be translated into English, as I am not sure about the rules for Japan. Be sure to check out the Japanese portal on Visa Journey for more specific information in relation to Japan.

Check out this Wiki for an overview of the CR1/IR1 process. http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/IR1_and_CR1_Immigrant_Visas

Hope this helps. :)

1) Must we wait for the NVC's approval to send the DS230&I864 packets, or can we send them right when we receive the barcode after paying?

No, you can send the appropriate file when the payment portal indicates "PAID" for the applicable fee.

4) Are the originals absolutely necessary to be submitted with the DS230&I864?

Civil documents that are submitted with the DS-230 must be original.
