Dental care is outrageous. One of my pet Peeves. I had my shoulder operated on and it was cheaper than my dental implant. My dentist said Pi dentist were good.

I had a cleaning and a filling earlier this month down in Mindanao. It was done at my fiance's 1 dentist in town and we had to wait until she got out of working at the local health clinic. But all in all was very good. I was pretty surprised actually. The best part was it was only 800peso. Which is really good.

Of course it is cheaper,,, as far as labor costs (and no malpractise insurance),,, but, materials cost the same,,,

and some of the latest technology has expensive materials.

Just as a side note,,, a US based dentist was wondering where a Filipina friend got some extensive dental work done... She

said, "Manila"... The dentist remarked,,, it was some of the best dental work he has ever seen. YMMV.

My wife had some composites done, I think was about $15 per surface... So, that is maybe %10-%20 of US retail cost. Or %25 of

the discounted rate. (FYI,,, not sure what the actual insurance costs would be)

Regards,

dc

My husband and I had dental work done a few months ago. Cost us about $300 with our insurance. We had major cleaning done, plus x-rays and the husband had some cavities filled

Eric needs some serious prosthetic work done, and I don't think I would have that done by anyone that I wasn't convinced knew what they were doing. I would want a half dozen verifiable references.

The online sites have lots of references and if you just go there you can get lots of good clinics, all over the Philippines. We spend enough time over there to where it isn't anything you need to hurry up and do. Take all the time you need. You'll have the money with what you save by avoiding the thieves in the US.

You got that right. One thing that keeps the thieves in line here is that most dentists work within a network, and even if you have minimal insurance, they still can only charge the patient's share as determined by contract. That alone saves you a fortune over what you would have to pay if you tried to negotiate on your own. We have fairly good dental insurance, and the network generally "adjusts" about 70% off what the dentist charges, and then pays their share, leaving us with little or no payment for our share. Of course, they get around that by giving "referrals" to their buddies for all kinds of procedures. If you can find a dentist that does almost everything his/herself, you can save a fair amount that way by avoiding all the extra exams and procedures. A dentist can make a few hundred by starting pre-treatment, then send you to an endodontist or oral surgeon, who makes close to a grand, then get you back in the chair to make another grand, or more, for the restoration. $12,000 for a new grill? Give me a break!

It is best for the fiancee to do all her dental work before she arrives in the US due to significant cost savings.

Yeah, I had some serious dental work done on Mindanao while I was there last December. My local dentists here in Florida gave me estimates of $15,000 - $20,000. I had ALL the work done there for $900.

The Philippine dentist was US trained and had 25 years of experience. I am satisfied with the results.

ONE CAVEAT!! They don't use as much novocaine while working on you. Pain is a very real part of the process. I just about came up out of the chair a couple times. It's completely different from the pain-free dentistry practiced here in the states.

May your visa journey be smooth and speedy.

Don't know if this is true, or not, but you have to pay extra for the novocaine, if you want a painless process. They usually use only lidocaine, or benzocaine, from what I have been told, that you often have to bring yourself.

:wow: That is some serious savings! Next time all you have to do is bring/pay for some novacaine

Oh, she used novocaine all right... just not enough! Yes, it was included in the price. After one session, I had a serious talk with her about pain control and she said that her concern was toxicity, not cost. I pointed out that my body mass was not the same as a skinny little Filipino and she upped the dosage for most of the rest of the time. However, toward the end, she skimped again and I was hurting. But, we got it done.

It's just something to be aware of when considering dental treatment there.
