So I've filed for citizenship and based on what I've read, my 12 y-o will become a citizen automatically. How do I go about getting her naturalized? I've read and heard conflicting info so I'm very confused.

10-21-2013 - Sent to another office
10-23-2013 - Sent to NSC (60 days the most to approval) (praying)
11-13-2013 - NOA2. Approved!!!!!!??????

12-09-2013 - Received by NVC

12-23-2013 - Entered in system

01-07-2014 - DS-261 completed online

01-08-2014 - AOS paid

01-23-2014 - NVC requested phone number for applicant to complete expedite request

01-30-2014 - Expedite request approved (awaiting email instructions)

The Child Citizenship Act will apply. Your child will automatically become a US citizen without the need to file anything. (Naturalization is the process you are going through? And it is only for those 18 years old and older. Minors never go through the naturalization process.)

You will want to obtain proof of your child's US citizenship by getting a US passport for around $100. You can also get her a Certificate of Citizenship (N-600) for several hundreds. Go with just the US passport which is all she needs as proof. The Certificate is a waste of money, but some people like having it.

I think the passport is a good first step. Your child can apply for Certificate any time later, even when s/he will be 99y.o.

I prefer my kids' paper be done. Most of serious Universities and government jobs require Certificate to prove a citizenship. So, I did it, and my daughters will NEVER have to worry about it in their lives.

Like me who took the GED exam because I didn't want to be bothered to get my transcript from Jamaica translated and having the GED saves me the hassle.

Why would you need to have a transcript from Jamaica translated? It's already in English!

Go with the US passport, that's what I did for my son.

Why would you need to have a transcript from Jamaica translated? It's already in English!

Go with the US passport, that's what I did for my son.

the transcript is already in English however the school systems are different and colleges doesn't know the equivalence for a CXC or GCE from Jamaica. My HSD from Jamaica was fine but my subjects didn't mean a thing to them.

Another thing, when applying to schools or for jobs and you have to list your schools, they NEVER have places to put stuff like that in.
