I have heard of this but in Egypt. There was a story of a girl who lost her virginity before marriage and she was going to get married but due to strict religious beliefs was afraid of the wedding night because the husband would know she wasn't a virgin. So she went ahead and did it so that she wouldn't be ostracised. I hear it's pretty common in Saudi Arabia...

Interesting!

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

This might seem kind of crazy but in Afghanistan, the girl is supposed to clean herself off (blood and all) with a white cloth on her wedding night as proof that she is a virgin. It is shown to those who question your "purity", especially the in-laws. I remember they did it to my cousin and I was sooooo bloody mad and wanted to throw up. My mom had to shut me up cause I was saying: Well if you didn't believe her then why did you marry her? And I was cursing up a storm...pisses me off I tell you!

Not everyone does this but some old fashioned so and so's still think it's a bright idea...

Exactly...isn't being a "virgin" equally an emotional state as well as a physical one?

The sad thing is, not everyone necessarily 'bleeds' their first time.....so just because there is no proof, that doesn't mean it aint true!

I was so not prepared for how much it was going to hurt the first time...no way im reliving that!

I aint cool enough for a signature.....

Yeah my mom and I were watching a documentary where the poor girl didn't bleed and she was hysterical as the mother-in-law accused her of being a #######...I had to explain to my mother that not all girls bleed so this stupid tradition (Arijit bhai is gonna get me on this) needs to be killed...

in a combination operation with vaginal “rejuvenation” tightening. She looks adoringly at her husband, Louis,

I imagine their excitement is more over this part of the procedure than the other. The vigirnity angle makes a nice media hook though.

;)

A LOT of stupid traditions need to be killed. The ones that are actually harmful, that is. There are also many harmless and silly (and sometimes, weird) traditions that are stupid but don't need killin'. The goat thing, for example, LOL.

I agree with you 100%

Paul and I met on the Bazaar on the 14th January (he joined my progressive rock forum that day)

July 3rd he flew to England to meet me

We fell in love while he drove all over the place coz I cannot read maps (we were supposed to go to Ingleton - but touched Darlington 4 times, Pierce Bridge 6 times, Scotch Corner twice and Bernard Castle twice and we never did make it to Ingleton)

It has been so long and so much has happened in between...

Arrived in Houston on October 29th 2006

Married 17th November 2006

Lost my father 8th January 2007 (all dates are a blur after this)

Conditional Green Card dated 24th October 2007

I-751 posted on 6th August 2009

Received on 7th August 2009 in VT
