THE ONLY DIFFERENCE between me and you is I admit MArriage should be discriminatory...... by it's very purpose and function it must be or... WHY BOTHER?

Maybe we, as a society, place too much importance on marriage. That's a different subject,in my opinion.

This function and definition of marriage was around with minor variation long before you and I or this country was ever thought of.

IF "I" along could decide we would not need all this discussion. I would look as see what institutions historically have worked to elevate nations and which ones left their people on the woodland floor.

You want to experiment without providing one example of a long term model of such social order.

That changed slowly and eventually a critical mass of pro-interracial marriage people existed and the laws changed. It was disruptive but it only happened because the cultural change necessary to make it happen had already occurred to a sufficient extent.

The same is true for gay marriage today. There is a cultural shift underway and Danno is stuck on the old side of this shift. One day, critical mass will be achieved in this country and gay marriage will become just part of the marriage landscape the way interracial marriage is today.

One wonders what the next cultural shift will be.

I'll be honest. I'm having trouble following what you're saying.

But I don't really care what the "function and definition" of marriage was in 1800. We've come a long way since then, thank goodness. I wouldn't want to go backwards.

We generally agree in this country that discrimination based on sexual orientation is wrong. Why should marriage be any different?

I'll say again, I haven't heard one compelling reason why gay people should not be allowed to get married.

How many single mothers actually pay into the IRS at the end of the year?

Other than tattoos being the child of a single parent is the greatest predictor of who goes to jail.

When it comes to AIDS research and treatment take a guess how much money has been sucked out of my pockets and out of the budgets of other health issues?

You want to experiment with other models.... got news for you, we would not be the first to go down that road, we would be the first to have a happy ending.

Societies can tolerate things out on the margins... when you up hold these things as "equal to" ..... your doomed as your foundations give way.

People who have no interest in having kids and making a family (for what ever reason) (in a saner time) have always gotten married to honor marriage. and of course to live respectably.

For and older couple to shack-up would be an act of degrading proper social living arraignment.
