Well, I'll say it again. I've never heard a compelling argument as to why same sex marriage should be against the law.

I still haven't.

I haven't seen any evidence that forward thinking nations crumble because of homosexuals. And I have things to do today, so I'll leave the rest of you to fight this out.

I never said these nations are crumbling "because" of gays getting married.

My point was these countries are so socially ill they are headed for the ash-heep of history..... and you want to look to them for inspiration on how we should proceed.......Hmm Ok?

You. Are. Crazy.

What does gay marriage have to do with fertility rates?!

These countries were high-lited as the models for us to aspire to in our social life.... I simply showed how they are the ones NOT to follow but to learn from.

I would recommend locking women up and forcing them to be breeders. That might help the fertility rate.

I can't even .. what does this mean?

I said countries that allow gay marriage are not crumbling and you show me a map about fertility rates as if that proves your point.

I am ill equipped to keep up with this level of insanity. Good day, sir.

Declining fertility rates have not been shown to have a link to gay marriage. They have been shown to be linked causally to better education and economic opportunities for women, however.

No one said they were.

I simply showed social failure in countries you want to patter ourselves after.

You didn't "bring" anything. You posted irrelevent nonsense, like you've been doing this entire thread. It was my mistake to engage you in the first place. You're obviously not a voice of logic or reason.

I feel like I'm "debating" with the guy who stands outside the grocery store downtown, wearing a dress, who rants about aliens.

I have not taken part in this discussion until now, so I have not said which countries I thought to be exemplars of statehood. There are a number on that list which I would not like to see the US pattern itself after.

Also, it is impossible to say which (if any) of those states are "social failures" without knowing what the criteria are for determining success or failure.

Of course you are over the top so let me join you.

What would be more humane..... to promote (by any means necessary ) a healthy national fertility rate or...

To watch millions of old people wasting away because there are no funds , personally or publicly to care for them?

Whats funny is in this country we always talk about leaving this mass debt to our "grand children to pay off"...... and what if there are no grand children?

To be fair, I *have* taken part in this discussion, and nowhere did I say the countries on that list are countries that the US should model itself after.

I simply said they were allowing same sex marriage and were not crumbling because of it.

according to that link you posted Singapore has a fertility rate of 0.78 and Macau's is 0.92 and they both don't allow gay marriage .

as for the countries that do allow gay marriage and their fertility rate. it seems like they are about average.

that being said I don't see the connection between gay marriage and fertility rates dropping

unless you think somehow we are all going to turn gay if they allow same sex marriage .

Well we are not discussing cuisine or who has the best fashion, we are talking about "what is good for creating the type of civilization we in the west seem to enjoy.

As it is we are harvesting from the "earlier model". ... but even now you can see in so many ways were we have departed from the time-held basics, we are having problems.

Europe has been bolder than the US in all social issues and we can see it is crumbling in a number of ways but I would suggest any society should first think of it's future and most of Europe has none unless tomorrow is the limit of your foresight.

We need to look back as see the things we got right, learn from the things we got wrong and move forward.

This idea that social pollution is contained within a persons own life is baseless and lazy.

If fact if they really believed this they would allow people to opt out of all the forced liberal ideas they have intrenched in this country but no..... Lefties are the most hard-core heavy handed group in power we have ever seen.

I Mean Jezz even when Sodomy was illegal it was so rarely enforced and even then to add punishment to other crimes such as a rape.

Are you seriously going to come here and claim there is no trend on that list?

As far as everyone turning gay... I welcome a serious debate.

Don't leave me alone in here ...

Awww, I'm sorry. I enjoy intelligent people and intelligent debate. I wasn't getting it from our friend here.

Danno, you can go on about how societies historically rise and fall, (look at Rome) birth rates typically decrease as education increases, etc. Based on those models you can argue that the "end" of our society is coming. At the very least, the US is not likely to remain the "top" world power on it's current trajectory. But you haven't shown me how gay marriage is the leading factor, or any factor at all, in the decline of a society. And, I'm not a "lib" as you describe it. I don't fit into any particular political category at all. I think extremists on either side, are quite simply, wrong.

If you accept the premise that the United States does not discriminate against people based on their sexual orientation, then I don't see any argument that makes it ok to have different rules for marriage for gay people and straight people.
