i am the USC, and we are DCF'ing through London US Embassy...i am trying to think ahead and prepare for the interview documents and i really don't understand the I-864 (i've tried reading it and read many posts on here and i'm still confused---sorry to be so dim)

We have saved £4800 (about $9200) and i am entitled to a retirement payment lump sum of £10261 (about $20,000) plus an annual pension of £3350 (about $6100)...we have no other assests except what we can sell before we leave the UK, and that will be negligable...

I have 2 friends at home who might be willing to sponsor my husband if needed (which i think it will be): one has a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 kids) with an annual income of $42000, but she can be a bit prickly and i don't want to have to ask her if i don't have to...the other friend is a retired lady who lives alone, and i don't know her income...

question is---how do the assests benefit us? can they be added on to a smaller income (my retired friend) to make up what they want on the I-864? will my pension income, added onto my friend's pension, if it equals $16,500 (poverty guideline for 2 person household) be enough? or do we have to start multiplying things???

i appreciate any help---

anna,

A Joint Sponsor needs to have sufficient financial resources on their own, or within their own Household, to meet the sponsorship requirements. You, the Sponsor, cannot combine your inadequate resources with a Joint Sponsor's inadequate resources, to meet the requirement. Nor can multiple people not in the same Household join toghether as Joint Sponsors to meet the requirement. A single person or Household must be able to meet the requirement on their own.

so our assests are just nice to have, they won't help us get into the country...ok...so if my retired friend's income is greater than $16,500 (125% of poverty guidelines) then she can sponsor my husband; is that right? if not, i'll have to ask my other friend...

am i right then? so we don't have to declare any of our assests or income when we go for the interview? or should i mention my pension income?

thanks--

Anna,

we went through that process... We only had a few thousand saved as well and I got a co-sponsor just in case, once we got to the embassy, the first lady we saw there requested piece by piece the paperwork, she started having a look at my I-864 and then she looked a bit puzzled, so I took my co-sponsor's paperwork out as well, then she said, you have a co-sponsor? then you're ok!

Now I must say that my co-sponsor's income was the same of your friend, but she lives on her own (no children nor husband)...

I hope this helps a bit...
