Police Certificates

Hi all, our case is presently at the NVC. We have not yet mailed out IV or AOS packets. I have obtained my UK police certificate, which I will include in the packet. However, I have also lived in the U.S. as I met my husband when I was a student on an F-1 visa. After completion of my studies and getting married I returned to the UK due to a member of my family being ill.

Although I have no criminal convictions, my question is whether I would be required to obtain some form of Police clearance from the U.S. as well as the UK? And if so, does anybody know which official body I would need to contact to obtain a U.S. police certificate? Thanks.

Per the documentation on required documents to be included, if you lived anywhere for 6 months or more then you will need to include a police record from there.

My wife lived in Phillie for 2 years and I just went to the Phillie police web site and submitted the form requesting her record.

Check the web site for the local PD and see if they have the information you need to put the request in on there. Otherwise you will need to call them/have your spouse get it for you.

From reading other posts on VJ asking the same question, I was under the impression the PCC was required from all places resided for more than 6 months since the age of 16, EXCEPT the US.

That is correct. USCIS will have already don't any needed background check in the US for the foreign applicant.

Thanks pushbrk. So just to clarify, I do not need to obtain a police certificate from the U.S. as USCIS would already have undertaken checks?
