The FBI has pretty much said it doesn't have the resources / hardware to watch purchases so closely.

its about to get a lot less expensive for the authorities. once the obamacare database is set up, if someone's doctor prescribes them x,y, or z... firearm purchase denied.

He seemed to act without purpose, sorry I think its a bit silly to call every criminal act terrorism.

Not every criminal act ends up where where dozens of people are shot and several killed. That kind of carnage should be classified as an act of terror and responded to accordingly. Law enforcement should have available the same kinds of resources they use for other potential terrorist acts - mainly intelligence and monitoring such individuals. Only then will we have a chance to prevent the next mass shooting.

In my mind, a terrorist is one who kills for a political cause. IE they use terror to further a goal, whereas this man killed for killings sake (maybe, we'll know soon enough)

Sure, there's a difference between Al Qaeda and the highway shooter, but they both belong under the same umbrella of terrorism. And it's important to make that classification so that law enforcement can take appropriate measures to prevent individuals like Holmes from mowing down innocent movie-goers. Do you not see any real benefit in alerts that would trigger intelligence gathering and monitoring from the FBI?

From the medical angle I do, but not the ammo. There would be too many false alarms.

So where do the gang bangers fit in on that list?

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Chicago reaches 250 homicides for 2012

By Tracy Swartz posted June 27, 2012 at 12:00 a.m.

Chicago this week reached 250 homicides for 2012—the worst start to a year in nine years, a RedEye analysis of preliminary police data found.

The city has not reached the 250-homicide mark for the first half of the year since 2003, which saw 286 homicides for the first half of the year and 601 homicides for the entire year, according to a 2009 Chicago Police Department report.

Homicides this year are up 36 percent compared to the same period last year, as of Wednesday afternoon, according to RedEye data.

Police believe two bodies found near Detroit's City Airport are missing Westland teens

DETROIT (WXYZ) - Police sources believe two bodies found Friday morning are those of missing Westland teens Jourdan Bobbish and Jacob Kudla.

Their bodies were found face down, next to one another, in a field near Lyford Avenue and Gilbo Street, on Detroit's east side. That field is adjacent to Detroit's City Airport.

Positive identification has yet to be made. Both were found with bullets to the head, apparently shot execution style. Sources say the bodies were lying next to each other and were badly decomposed. The condition of the bodies has delayed their identification and they are being sent to the Medical Examiner.

Family members tell 7 Action News they are gathering dental records to help in the identification of the bodies. So far, those family members have not been allowed to see the bodies because of their condition.

Gun laws in Illinois

Gun laws in Illinois regulate the sale, possession, and use of firearms and ammunition in the state of Illinois in the United States.[1][2]

Illinois does not issue licenses for the concealed carry of firearms, nor does it recognize licenses issued by other states. Illinois is the only state that does not allow concealed carry in some form. Open carry is also prohibited in most areas. When a firearm is being transported, it must be unloaded and enclosed in a case.

To legally possess firearms or ammunition, Illinois residents must have a Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) card, issued by the state police. Non-residents who may legally possess firearms in their home state are exempt from this requirement. There is a waiting period to take possession after purchasing a firearm — 72 hours for a handgun, or 24 hours for a rifle or shotgun. Private sales are allowed, and are subject to these same requirements. Possession of automatic firearms, short-barreled shotguns, or short-barreled rifles is prohibited.

Illinois does not have state preemption for gun laws, and some local governments have enacted ordinances that are more restrictive than those of the state.

The city of Chicago requires residents to complete a firearm safety course, receive a background check including fingerprinting, and then pay a $100 permit fee which is renewed every three years. Registration of any handgun will assume an additional one time fee of $15.00

Fully automatic firearms and short-barreled rifles and shotguns prohibited. AOW (Any Other Weapon) and large-bore DD (Destructive Device) allowed with proper approval and tax stamp from BATF. Historically accurate short-barreled rifles possessed for the purpose of historical reenactment allowed by bona-fide members of a nationally-recognized military reenactment organization.

o possess or purchase firearms or ammunition, Illinois residents must have a Firearm Owner's Identification (FOID) card, which is issued by the Illinois State Police.[3] The police must issue FOID cards to eligible applicants. An applicant is disqualified if he or she has been convicted of a felony or an act of domestic violence, is the subject of an order of protection, has been convicted of assault or battery or been a patient in a mental institution within the last five years, has been adjudicated as a mental defective, or is an undocumented immigrant.[4] There are additional requirements for applicants under the age of 21.[5] In 2011, in the case of People v. Holmes, the Illinois Supreme Court ruled that non-Illinois residents who were permitted to possess a firearm in their home state are not required to have an Illinois FOID card.[6][7]

Illinois does not issue concealed carry licenses, nor does it accept CCLs issued by other states. It is the only state that has no provision for the concealed carry of firearms by citizens.[8] (In compliance with the federal Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act, retired police officers who qualify annually under state guidelines are allowed to carry concealed.)[9] Open carry is also illegal, except when hunting, or in a fixed place of business with owner's permission, or in one's abode. When a firearm is being transported, it must be unloaded and enclosed in a case.[10] There are several pending lawsuits challenging the state's prohibition of the carrying of firearms in public.[11][12]

Illinois does not have state preemption of firearm laws, and some local governments have passed laws that are more restrictive than those of the state. Some municipalities, most notably Chicago, require that all firearms be registered with the local police department.[13] Chicago also prohibits the sale of firearms within city limits.[14] Cook County has banned the possession of certain semi-automatic firearms that it defines as assault weapons, as well as magazines that can hold more than ten rounds of ammunition.[15][16] Other municipalities have also enacted various firearm restrictions.[17] Lack of preemption makes it difficult to travel throughout Illinois with a firearm while being sure that no laws are being broken.

In Chicago, gun owners are required to have a Chicago firearm owner's permit, which costs $100 and must be renewed every three years. Before getting the permit, the resident must complete a training course that includes at least four hours of classroom training and one hour of range time. Each gun must be registered with the city, and the registration must be renewed every year, at a cost of $15 per gun. Gun possession is permitted only inside a dwelling, not in a garage or on the outside grounds of the property. Only one gun at a time may be kept in a usable state.[18][19] Chicago's ordinances are being challenged in court, with plaintiffs alleging that they are so restrictive and burdensome as to interfere with citizens' Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms.[20][21][12]

Highland Park bars handgun possession unless the resident has obtained a permit from the Highland Park Police. The permit must be renewed every year, and the resident must attend a gun safety and training session, given by the police, every three years.[22]
