The gun lobby is very, very powerful in this country. You can't be a politician and say 'no' to them without feeling their political wrath. In fact, even Obama is trying to skirt the line to prevent an all out PR war with the gun lobby over this incident. I'm glad he said what he did, but now the WH is saying it will focus on strengthening existing laws. A simple regulation that would track gun and ammo purchases would be one of the most effective ways to prevent homegrown terrorists from this kind of carnage. In the meantime, watch the gun lobby and its peanut gallery continue to pretend that nothing can be done legislatively to lower the chances of us being victimized by homegrown terrorists. Osama Bin Laden must be laughing in hell right now.

A guy that spread global terrorism in support , of a totalitarian, religiously oppressive, draconian society, that treat women like cattle, must be laughing in Hell because people from the freest country in the world, want to protect their freedom and constitutional rights, and prosecute the bad guys??

dude put the pipe down.

Hardly. There is no full proof way to prevent terrorism from happening, but we do everything in our power to stop terrorists in other countries, including going to war, but when it comes to homegrown terrorists, the gun lobby and its peanut gallery keeps pretending that no regulations or oversight can be done. That's like saying we couldn't do anything about Bin Laden. The gun lobby needs to go ** themselves.

This guy killed 14 people, Chicago had over 50 gun related deaths last week. You work on Chicago, Philly, Oakland, LA, Atlanta, DC, Detroit, St. Louis, Stockton, and LA for now, and let us handle those isolated shooting spree's.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

They need to introduce something. I already suggested ammo purchases being traceable and I got a torrent of abuse from the RWNJs. How can the WH possibly convince people this is a good idea?

the bad sentence structure in that really takes away from it's point.

The misspelling really takes away from this comment.

The support is there among a majority of Americans. They want reasonable regulations on gun purchases. They want a terrorist like Holmes to set off alerts to the FBI because they know such tragedies are preventable. All of that in spite of the rhetoric from the gun lobby who uses scare tactics (the gubmint gonna take away mah guns) to wedge the issue.

You would think Americans would be more worried about the hundreds of gun deaths committed in the inner cities each week by thugs and gang bangers. I guess that's not news worthy though is it?

Exactly! How many folks are abandoning their babies and throwing them in the dumpster. It is so bad that in some areas there are public service announcements/signs that implore folks to not abandon their babies in both Spanish and English. But all these types of senseless killings/murders isn't imnportant enough to make the news.

Could we get a ban on Free speech, right to assemble and vote while we are at it. ?/ If the majority of the people want it, then we need to change the Constitution. Have an amendment. That is what amendmants are for.

Removing the right for vote is in the process of being approved by the republicans with the voter ID law... Don't you read the news?

Hush now! You know libs don't want to hear about that nor all those inner city shootings. All that matters to them is those 14 people in the theater and Trayvon Martin. Everything else is meant to be swept under the rug.
