I am still working through the visa process but in anticipation of my fiance's arrival I have been getting rid of stuff I really dont need any more and fixing little things around the house that I know should be done before she gets here.

I am not making any major changes becaus that is something I think we should do together. A friend of mine asked me if were going to sell the house and buy a new one. I asked why? He said so it would be a house you both bought. I had not really thought about it because I already consider this one "our" house. I have not shared this house with another woman so I dont look at like there are any memories there.

I will talk to her about this idea of buying a house we both agree on but I thought I would ask others for their thoughts and experiences of when your SO arrived and what you did?

I shared our present home with my ex-husband. It's a pretty nice joint - lol.

Wes used to say that he didn't mind if we stayed here. Probably because it is a nice home.

As time has passed, his opinion has changed. He says he'd really like something we have picked out together.

Since the house is really too big for us, has too many maintenance bells and whistles, and too large of yard for an asthmatic husband to look after, we've put it on the market.

I'm looking forward to a house where there are no memories of an ex and the horrid things that went on in the house.

As you've not shared the house with another woman, she may be fine with the place. I think MOST woman really don't like living somewhere that's got the shadow of a former wife or girlfriend. From that standpoint I think you've got the freedom of seeing how you, your new wife, and your new life 'fit' into your 'old' house.

I have an apartment, so my situation is a little different. I've held off on getting a house because I feel it's important for her to feel like she has a choice. She's already moving away from her family and to another country. She's even said my apartment won't feel like ours, which is completly understandable. As far as the other thing goes, I've been getting rid of stuff like crazy: condensing boxes, listing things on ebay, sending things to thrift stores/clothing donation drop offs, etc. She moved recently and got rid of a lot, so I've been doing what I can to try and create space.

I live in the house that my husband shared with his ex. Been here just over 4 years now. When she left him she wiped him out of most of the furniture so he had then bought some new stuff. The two of us then purchased additional new furniture together. It never bothered me that this house was jointly owned by him and his ex, just as long as they hadn't shared the bed I was then sleeping in.

I know it bothered my husband's friend's second wife that she was in the house that he and his ex shared along with his kids who are now adults. At one point he tried to sell the house and it just wasn't selling so she decided to accept the situation and they've been replacing things, redecorating and remodelling.

When I first arrived here, husband asked me if I preferred that we sold the house and got one that we picked out together but I actually like this house so I said I just wanted to keep it.

During the wait:

I found a new job in April. I don't know how I did that, wrapping up the end of my old job in February, interviewing in March and collecting all the paperwork for the K-1 Visa.

Since we have been in the process, I have visited my fiance 2. One week in July and 2 weeks end of Sept and first week of October.

I joined Weight Watchers, paid my last enstallment of my wedding dress, my parents had our engagement printed in their local newspaper, researching everything for the Church wedding and reception for "some day" in the near future, took Greek lessons from March till July. Need to start up again.

Discussed living arrangements with my sister. She is also my room mate in a 3 bedroom apartment. She is planning on moving out when he gets here and getting her own place. I think she should stay and get other room mates and my fiance and I will look for our own place. But I will wait and see what he thinks is a good choice to make.

Gathered all required docs for my fiance once we get approved and what he will need for the interview. Gave this to him last trip in September.

Next will be the very scary spare bedroom. I have been putting that off way too long and I wanted it sorted before he gets here. Throw things out and donate what is donateable. (is that a word??)

I think I am in overdrive since we got engaged. My boss had a "talk" with me the other day and said he has noticed that I have been a tad bit "aggressive" lately and this may not be a good reflection on me in the office.

I was ready to cry. I am trying to do so much to get ready and so afraid that we won't get approved and I have cut down on the caffeine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I guess this is a lot trying to survive during the wait.

Preparing for the arrival of Chris:

Lets see.

Tomorrow I am going to buy a new dresser for all of his clothes!! (I apparently don't have enough room to share mine)

I cleaned out my closet. Wow...I had some old stuff in there!

Working on getting a drum room together for all of his gear!

Planning a wedding! Fun and exciting but a bit weird since we don't have a date! :)

But about the house thing...when I moved back to Western NC I bought a house. This was in the middle of our relationship so it was kinds like it was always ours!

However I am in the process of selling the house and land for commercial property! So we will purchase a new house together next year!!

Joe had bought this house a half year before we became involved (we knew each other as friends at the time) and while he was seeing another woman at the time, they weren't serious and she never lived here. Once we became serious Joe held off on buying any furniture until we could make decisions about that together. The only thing he bought on his own was the bedroom set but that was before we were together and I actually love it and am happy with his choice. He did have a lot of accumulated clutter that I would like if he would get around to deciding what he wants to keep and what he wants to get rid of but those are his choices to make, so the boxes are still in storage in the various closests and in the garge. He keeps 'talking' about doing it, so someday he may actually get around to doing it. :). He cleaned out one dresser and half the closet for my things when I arrived - and I keep my off-season clothes out in the garage with his stuff, changing as needed. I wouldn't mind having a bigger house since he bought this one planning only on one person lliving here, but have no other problems living here and have more or less made it 'ours' since I arrived:-).

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
