I will start off with saying I don't agree with Dan Kathy's position on Gay marriage or at least a cival unioun, but I do admire him for having the courage in this day and age to stick to voice his opinion, and not retreat to some politically correct corner. I also support the right of peopel to vote with their dollar if they don't like it.

What I find amazing is that someone in the position of Mayor would actually suggest they BAN the restaurants from their city because of their opinion. Anybody that loves liberty and supports this is not a supporter of liberty. Chick-Fil-A has a right to their opinion and it is none of governments business.

Can't ban it. That's ridiculous. Let the people who either share their beliefs or the people who don't share their beliefs but don't care enough to not eat there make their own decisions.

Homosexuals congregate in big cities because they tend to be safer and more welcome there. But big city mayors look at them and see a source for fundraising and votes and don't think twice about spouting unconstitutional nonsense like this.

I agree with that one. Let people vote with their wallets on this one. Incidentally, Chik Fil A is a generous employer, far more generous than other fast food corporations.

Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel: “Chick-fil-A Values Are Not Chicago Values”

Let's have a look at some of those so called "Chicago Values".

http://www.chicagonow.com/chicago-muckrakers/2010/06/chicago-is-three-times-as-deadly-as-nyc-and-twice-as-violent-as-la/

Chicago is three times as deadly as NYC and twice as violent as LA

Chicago's murder rate was nearly three times higher than New York City's last year, according to The Chicago Reporter's analysis of preliminary 2009 crime statistics, released late last month by the FBI. The rate of violent crime in Chicago was almost double the rates for both New York City and Los Angeles, according to the Reporter's analysis.

On May 24, 2010, the FBI released its preliminary annual uniform crime report for 2009. The report includes preliminary crime figures for more than 270 cities with a population of 100,000 or more. The Reporter analyzed the murder and violent crime statistics for those cities. Murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault and aggravated battery are considered violent crimes.

Chicago's murder rate, slightly more than 16 murders per 100,000 residents, ranked 30th, and its rate of violent crime--about 1,125 incidents per 100,000 residents--ranked 27th. However, among the nation's 10 largest cities, each with a population of one million or more, only Philadelphia had higher rates of murder and violent crime than Chicago. Furthermore, the FBI's violent crime total for Chicago did not include any of the city's 1,443 incidents of criminal sexual assault, which is a broader classification than the FBI's forcible rape category. Including just 700 of those crimes would bump Chicago to 24th on the list for violent crime rate.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Well the guy is grandstanding isn't he. You can't ban a restaurant for the owner's opinion.

That said, as Public Relations exercises go, having a company take a controversial position on a controversial social issue is complete idiocy. It's not something that you should do in business, and it's certainly not something that is likely to grow a business.

There's actually a name for this - it's called The Ratner Effect.

Business is growing like crazy, and they have always professed to be a Christian company. Company also does not allow any franchise holder to open on Sunday.

What is a "Christian company" when its at home? That's ludicrous.

If you're in business - you do it to make money, in an ethical way and serve your customers. Outside of that you might support a few charities and help out the local community. That's it.

What you do not do is put your livelihood front and centre of a controversial debate it has no business being involved in. Similarly you don't go around alienating sections of society and creating the impression that certain citizens aren't welcome in your establishments.

You run the risk of losing customers, and subjecting the people who work for you to abuse.

Dan Cathy might be a Christian, but he's a f*cking moron.

Truett Cathy has been running the business the same way for a long time and now Dan is running it the same way. And they have been pretty successful.

And they give a lot of money to charity. Like I said I disagree with him, but love him for having the balls to give the political correct crowd the finger, darn the consequences.

Yes - folks who don't know squat about the chain act all shocked and offended. Chick-fil-A has always been this way. It is only new to people who don't have a clue about the restaurant.

The company's official statement of corporate purpose says that the business exists "To glorify God by being a faithful steward of all that is entrusted to us. To have a positive influence on all who come in contact with Chick-fil-A.

From Wiki: Chick-fil-A (referring to "filet") is an American fast food restaurant chain headquartered in the Atlanta suburb of College Park, Georgia, United States, specializing in chicken entrées and is known for promoting the company founder's Christian values

I have to pass one on the way to work every morning and lines are out the door every day.
