Hi all!

Our case is on the stage when I've started preparing documents for IV package. I should send some important documents like Birth certificate and Marriage certificate to my husband in the US.

Is it necessary to send the Original certificates? can I make a copy? what is the best solution in this situation?

Do I need translations of these documents?

thanks a lot!

You don't need to send *Original* Marriage Certificate in IV package.

You can obtain *Certified* copy issued by the marriage registration office (where your marriage is registered) in English (some country issues a marriage certificate printed in foreign and english language on same page), and use that in your IV package. That's what we did in our IV package.

You can do the same for birth certificate.

You can send a copy, but you need to include a translation. If you send copies, don't forget to bring the originals to the interview.

Unless something changed from when we did it a couple years ago, you have to send the original as it was issued from source...no photocopies were accepted. Read the directions very carefully so you don't get delayed. We sent all original documents to the NVC.

30 March 2012 Sent everything out again from Aviano AB, Italy.

10 April 2012 Check cashed

17 April 2012 Received NOA1 dated 6 April.

Wrong input.

"Original/Certified Copy" ( BIRTH, MARRIAGE, POLICE) is MUST for NVC. If you are in Electronic Process (EP), that’s the only time you have to bring the Originals in the Interview otherwise photo copy is not valid during the NVC.

If the applicant will have an Interview at the same country from where all those necessary documents are issued, you DON’T EVEN have to translate the documents in English. But in practice, most of us translate the every document which is not in English. I would say it’s good idea to be OVER-prepared than UNDER-prepared and no one wants to get the case delayed.

Good luck.

Not for the NVC stage. For NVC, you send either the original document or a certified copy of the original document. This is a CR1 or IR1, not a K1.

You can send a copy, but you need to include a translation. If you send copies, don't forget to bring the originals to the interview.

For Ukraine, documents in Ukrainian or Russian DO NOT need translation at the NVC stage.

Thank you all for the reply. I've prepared certified copies! hope, it'll work!

UGG!. I cannot comprehend the above statement. A "Certified Copy" is something you order or obtain, not something you prepare. What do you mean, you "prepared" certified copies?

Could be a simple English mistake. It is important to clarify but let´s keep in mind that many VJ users are not fluent English speakers.

"prepared" - meaning went into the notary's office and got the copy of the certificates.

Sorry, if it made you SOOOO confused. I think it's obvious that i couldn't prepare it at home

That's not what I meant. Generally a certified copy is "ISSUED" by a government agency holding the "ORIGINAL". Generally, a notary is not where you go to obtain a certified copy of a government record. It IS, where the necessary documents are obtained in China but never heard of that in Ukraine.

If you're saying YOU have the original and you had a notary attest that it's a true copy of that original, no good. Send the original.

What if I already sent the original marriage certificate with the i-130 package? Will a photocopy with translation be sufficient for the IV package (NVC) ?

You should not have sent original with I-130.

You need original at NVC stage.

Probably best to start new threads instead of bumping very old ones in the future, just FYI
