on topic, i would say that you have not been exposed to malaria, having had the experience myself.

i would think that perhaps you have a fungal infection or a cellulitis. both are common to central africa.

a fungal infection would be contracted in hot, humid, damp surfaces that are shared by multiple people, such as family bathroom (shower) floors. symptoms include discomfort, "softness" of the feet, uncomfortable walking (pins and needles), and peeling or reddened skin. treatment involves prescription such as miconazole.

could also be cellulitis (pathological inflamation of the skin tissue) caused by streptococci or staphlococci. anit-biotic regimen required.

parasitic infestations such as worms or fleas would result in other symptoms that would be readily diagnosed.
