DIAGNOSE ME...Coming home with ailments

Okay, so I've been to Nigeria twice. The first trip in March 2011, I came back home in tip top shape feeling great and larger than life. No problems whatsoever...even dropped a few pounds!

In February 2012, went back to visit and during this visit my feet started hurting. Specifically right in front of my heel where the arch begins...and it is both feet. I've had an MRI (no problems), seen a spine specalist (he says looks great!), been tested for LUPUS and other Auto Immune causes, all of my blood work is A-OK...perfect even!

I've tried to get them to test me for various forms of malaria to see if that is what is causing the inflammation in my feet. I don't have the "normal symptoms" they rule that out and throw that theory out the window right away. Oh, and I have had x-rays for plantar fasciitis...no problem with my feet that they can see and I have had six x-rays for varification.

The only odd thing that happened to me while I was in Nigeria was I cut myself while cutting a white yam. The knives, I brought myself, they were brand new and yes, I had a tetanus vaccine in 2011...so no trouble there.

Oh and one more thing, about three months ago, liver levels were abnormal....the following month, perfect. Again, instead of the doctor testing me for any form of malaria...she did blood work again then called me with the results, stating, "whatever you did to correct the levels this month, keep doing that!" Are you serious???

Any ideas? Is anyone else experiencing any problems since arriving home?

I'm starting to think I may need to try to see a specialist. Any suggestions in the Birmingham, Alabama area?

Is the pain worse when you first get up in the morning, then gets better after walking around for a while, then again worse towards the evening

after you been on your feet all day ? Those are plantar fascitis symptoms and they don't show up on xray. Go see a podiatrist.

The tie between 9ja may have been increased walking.

Not sure exactly the type of doctor you're wanting. You may want to try Dr. Oludayo Dawodu, he's in the Birmingham area (possibly Fairfield). He's from Nigeria so maybe he could give you more insight on your problems.

    I'm not laughing at your condition...only at the General Hospital comment. That just was too funny!! I don't know about your foot condition..But as for the Liver one...I had routine bloodwork done once, and it came back with a high LFT (liver function test) result. My Dr. had me have a CT scan of liver, talk to a specialist who performed more LIver tests and even did a liver biopsy. All to come to the conclusion that it was nothing!! A year later, the same test was normal. Even little things like weight loss can give different results. Or medications you were taking at the time of the first result. I wouldnt worry about that one especially since it was normal this time. As for the "Malaria" thoughts...When I was in Nigeria and even here in Ghana, every pharmacy or clinic you walk into makes you believe you have Malaria. ME: "hello Dr, I have been having an earache for the last couple days, can you please check it"...Doctor: "My dear, you are having Malaria"...lol. They freak you out into thinking you must have Malaria..so please don't worry yourself with that one. I know this may sound weird, but stress can cause many crazy things. Im sure you are stressed out with the traveling and the whole visa process. Maybe some massage therapy could help~ Feel better soon!
