Marriage Cert in Jordan

ok VJ folks !

ok so i got married 7/14 ! and just came back from our honeymoon.

i am still overseas in Jordan and today we went and got our marriage certificate. I am Christian so we took our Church marriage certificate and took it to the local internal afairs in her city. We got it certified and everything but have one small concern with the name.

As a USC i have a three part name; first name , middle name, and last name. The local government here in Jordan requested a 4 name part on the marriage certificate. I told them and we tried to let them know my legal name on my passport is only three and they wouldn't accept a 3 part name so now on the marriage certificate they have my first name , middle name, my dads name and then last name.

Is this going to cause any problems when i start my petition? the second thing is the church marriage certificate has the correct 3 name i have on my passport. which would one would i need to submit with the petition? the church certificate or the certificate i got from the local government here in Jordan? i figured it would be the one with the local government but wanted to get everyone's thoughts.

thanks for the help and let the journey begin !

Wassim.

it doesn't effect anything because when you send your documents they want a copy of the marriage contract for Jordan, not the marriage certificate from civil status dept

I am still a bit confused and need clarification. When you say marriage contract that would be the church marriage cert.? I only have two things, a marriage certificate from the church i got married in , and then a local government issued marriage certificate from the local government.

The church marriage cert. has the right names, the local government has 4 segment names.

should i send a copy of both?

thanks!

OP, firstly, I removed your duplicate threads in the spousal visa forum that had no replies, please do not start multiple threads on the same topic.

Secondly, what is the "official" record by Jordanian standards, the certificate you received from the church or the certificate you received from the local government office? This requires a Jordan specific answer.

the 'official' record by Jordanian standards is like a marriage certificate you would get from the state. in Jordan you get married in a religious marriage and take the church certificate (in my case) and present it to the state in order to get a state issued marriage certificate. so in Jordan my marriage is registered officially since i presented the church one to them. I hope this help, i just don't know why one to submit with my petition .

thanks

You submit the official one issued by the government body.

the NVC does not accept the one from the civil status department from Jordan anymore, the sent me an rfe when I sent this one. They want the contract from the church...the contract itself. In arabic and in english

but if you want to be safe send both..with the original petition i sent both...at the NVC stage it was confusing as they asked for the marriage certificate, but when i sent the marriage cert from the civil status dept(the gov one) they wanted the actual contract not the one from the government

That works then.. it's not a contract though from the church-- it's a certificate. Contract is Islamic. I submitted the court documents-- it's all we had.

It seems that i will have to submit both marriage certificate , the one from the local government and the church marriage certificate. I have them both in Arabic and English so i'll just do that to be on the safe side. I am just concerned they will question why i have a 4 segment name on the local government one and only 3 on the church certificate. I guess i'll have to deal with that if it comes up but thats what i have !! the local government in Jordan watned a 4 segment name and the computer wouldn't take 3 segment. You know how it is to deal with the government there !

thanks for the replies so far !

Yeah, it can suck... if there is still a place on the USCIS forms to indicate alternate names then just put that 4-part one there when you fill out the forms. That should take care of that.

I had the same problem when I got married at the Shariah court in Jordan. They asked me for my fourth name and I told them I do not have one so they did not put it on the contract. But on the certificate from the civil dept I have four names and they used my grandfather's name. It's all good there shouldn't be a problem. Send both! By the way congrats on the marriage...ours was 7/11 and we are august filers. We should keep in touch since we have Jordanian spouses!

Yeah i ended with sending both certs just to be on the safe side ( church cert and the civil one) - if they want to know why there is a difference i can tell them the Jordanian system required 4 names ! not my fault hehhe they wouldn't issue one if i didn't give them a 4 segment name.

Thank you and congrats to you too !! 3 days before us. I am a september filer as i had to put all this stuff together which took for ever but got it in early september ( the 10th). so yes we should keep in touch , my petition is at the NBC now as it seems CSC and vermont are backed up so i hope that will help us in the wait time.

Did you file yourself or thru an office in Jordan? And did you file from Jordan or the state's? Just curious and thank you! Hopefully you and your spouse isn't as impatient as ny wife and I haha

Yeah, we'll keep our fingers crossed !!

I filed myself, as it is a very easy process and in the States. i live in TX and my wife was able to come visit me with her tourist visa that she had prior to us getting married. I couldnt' file in Jordan as i reside in the States, if i did direct file it would have only taken 3 months from what i hear.

I see you filed via Nahda office? i had a friend who filed with them - i think they are a good office.

best of luck to all of us !
