Last time I did that it was 1984 and it had to be an ((Original with Original Stickers, Stamps and or Raised Seal Stamping too)). Photo Copies were not allowed then and I am sure this is your issue. Have to get an "Original". A good point to those getting married soon is to get 2 or 3 ORIGINALS and keep them in separate and safe places. DEERS process is very fast and instant as soon as entered, then ID Card will be next step. GET ORIGINAL and you will be all set. Good Luck :) Mr. Pangga.

that's exactly what they told my husband there is no sticker or raised seal on it. he told them that it has documentary stamp but it was not accepted. the original copy is a copy from NSO and thats it. we dont know how will they accept it. :(

I guess its better if you request a Certified True Copy of your MC from the Local Registrar Office.

if they are after for seal and stamp/sticker.

My husband enrolled me in DEERS on his base. I presume the requirement in the certificate is the same. Remember when you get married the form is typed and signed in quadruplicate (4 forms)? One was sent to NSO, one stayed with the municipality, one was kept by our officiant, and one was given to us. The last one was the form he submitted for DEERS.

Hope it helps! :star:

The marriage cert must be the original. If you don't have that, the DEERS folks cannot accept it.

If you can't quickly get your hand on an original from the PI, just get married again in the US. Get married tomorrow, get a cert usually within a week, then go back to DEERS. The only thing you will miss out on is a couple of months of BAH.

Oh wait, just realized you are still in the PI. Yeah, you need to get an original certificate from NSO, and if you are in a hurry, Johnny Air it to him. But in reality, there is no rush. The military won't give you many, if ANY, benefits in the PI, except perhaps medical, and once he DOES enroll you in DEERS, his BAH will be reimbursed back to the date of your marriage, so you won't lose any money.

When I got my wife enrolled in DEERS, they scanned the NSO copy of the marriage certificate, scanned her passport with visa in it, and needed her SSN. If you don't have a SSN, you need an ITIN to keep you enrolled into DEERS (the DEERS office will tell you that you need a SSN though). If not, you will drop back out of the system after a few months. Granted all our steps were done in the US, but that is what it took for my wife to get enrolled into DEERS and get an ID card.

It seems like every local military installation has their own rules. My wife and step daughter were enrolled in DEERS three days after we got married, (7 days after they arrrived). They used the A-number in lieu of a social security number and told us to just come back and get new ID cards after they got social security numbers.

If you think about it, the social security number requirement must be bogus. Although the K1 recepient can apply for a social security number as soon as you are married, the K2 is not eligible until they have a EAD or green card. My daughter had already had several doctors visits and eye surgery (paid for by TRICARE), before she had a social security number.

The rules SHOULD be the same worldwide. Now, the INTERPRETATION of those rules... that is another matter altogether. But you are correct, a SSN is preferred, but NOT required. If they issue an ID card without SSN, the card is supposed to be issued for 90 days only. But in our case, even though the guy told us that, the card was good for the full 4 years. So when Roxane got her SSN, we did not bother going back to have a new ID card made.

If you don't have a SSN, the system generates a fake SSN to be used in the interim. It used to matter more when SSNs were on the cards, but nowadays, they no longer are, so I think eventually they will stop asking for SSNs. And when you think about it, it's all really moxnix, since they only use the last 4 of the sponsor's SSN to identify ALL family members in DEERS anyways.

What is required is marriage certificate and 2 forms of ID (passport and birth cert are commonly used). The SSN is optional to get enrolled, you can enroll for 90 days without one. Except in our case, either the guy messed up and made the card for 4 years, or the system just automatically does that, because her ID card was good for 4 years, as was another friend of mine who did the same for his wife.

And, I might add, if they DO give you a temporary ID card, you are supposed to return once you have your SSN, and get a new, 4-year card.
