Hello everyone! My fiance and I are going to try to apply for a fiance visa. We had originally planned to get married in his home country but plans have changed and so we are going to try for a fiance visa. We are absolutely clueless when it comes to this so any advice, links, help, etc would greatly be appreciated! We are hoping to file by the end of next month so we are trying to get all of our ducks in a row. I know it's going to be a rough road ahead. I know basic stuff but that's about all lol I'm sure I will be leaning on you all for advice and support quite a bit in the next month or two!!! Thanks everything!

Questions off the top of my head..

What is considered public assistance? If you have received assistance in the past, will this effect your chances?

Our sponsor is a great friend of both of us. Does it matter that she lives in a different state than where we'll be residing?

What all do we need from her?

I think that is all for now. Let the journey begin :D

First, be sure to read through the I-129F instructions: http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-129finstr.pdf

Then, read the VJ guide, http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1guide and the flowchart, http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1flow .

On your co-sponsor, they don't have to live in the same state. It's more important that they are a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident and can show proof that they can support your fiancé. Be sure to review the poverty guidelines for 2012: http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-864p.pdf .

Good luck!

Thank you! I will start with what you gave me. She is a U.S Citizen and makes well above the level..i just wanted to make sure that her residing in another state wouldn't be an issue.

Another question for anyone: Do you have to show you have accomodation? For example, in the UK you have to show that you have a residence that is big enough for your entire family. Is that a requirement for the US as well?

I don't believe that's a question asked generally and it's not a requirement, but it could be a embassy/consulate-specific question if they feel there's reason to believe the relationship isn't genuine. You may want to check out the embassy/consulate reviews and check the regional forum covering Tunisia to see if anyone has been asked that sort of question previously.
