New Jersey utilities will be required to buy more solar energy under legislation signed today by Governor Chris Christie.

Utilities including Public Service Electric & Gas and Jersey Central Power & Light will need to get 2.05 percent of their electricity from solar projects in 2014, up from less than 0.5 percent now.

New Jersey developers added 174 megawatts of photovoltaic panels in the first quarter, surpassing California as the largest solar state with 34 percent of all U.S. installations, according to the Solar Energy Industries Association. The legislation will spur additional solar development, Christie said at a press conference in Trenton today.

“Renewable energy not only helps meet our goals of increasing sustainability and protecting the environment, but can be an engine for economic growth,” he said in an e-mailed statement. The law “will help us remain a national leader in the solar-energy industry.”

Speaking of squatters - I was in the mood for a good, classic western, so I started to watch, Shane, until I found out that even the most sacred movie genre for conservatives, the western, there's socialism and liberal indoctrination. Apparently, Shane, gun-slinging drifter and hero of the movie, decides to help some squatters who are being threatened by the rightful owners of the land they are farming on. The landowners are depicted as mean, bullies and Shane, a Robin Hood with a cowboy hat, stands up to them and for justice. I'll bet the Hollywood communists working at the studios during that era celebrated their crafty propaganda disguised as rugged pioneering by drinking from small shot glasses while toasting, "Mazel tov!"

Just another example of government interfering with the market. If solar power is competitive with conventional energy sources, then there's no need to mandate it.

You forget that when the so-called conservatives advocate less government, they mean, less government in their lives, not in the lives of others... When they advocate free enterprise, they mean, free for them to lobby and buy the politicians of their choice...

Not to mention depicting as heroes those that were taking away Native American land so that they could build public transportation and infrastructure.
