Maybe I have missed something. Do I need the A# to file the I-485 AOS? If so, where would this number be found or how do I obtain it? There appears to be some number A# handwritten on the back side of the I-94. Is this the A#? Work is optional before I receive the green card. I know I need the SSN before I work, but do I need the SSN before the I-765 Employment document is filed with the I-485?

Alien number = A number

The A# can be found on the 1st and 2nd Notice of Action from the K-1 petition and that is probably it written on the I-94. It's a 9 digit number, but sometimes they leave off the lead zero, i.e. A 12 345 678 should be

A 012 345 678. Hopefully, all three match. You do not need an SSN to submit the I-484 or the I-765. If you do not have an SSN by the time you submit either just enter NONE where it asks for an SSN.

Now if you entered the country as a K-1 and have been in the country over 76 days you will need an EAD card or I-551 stamp or card to be assigned an SSN. Plus you need EAD card or I-551 stamp or card to work as well.

Before you ask RED number in lower right of visa is the nonimmigrant visa number.

I don't have Claudeth's passport in front of me but isn't there an alien number on the visa in the passport also? Seems to me there is and I think I used that number when we filed her AOS. Good luck

All the previous posters are correct the A# is everywhere; NOA1, NOA2, I-94, passport visa, etc.

The Machine Readable Immigrant Visa (MRIV) shows the alien's identification number ("A" number) as the "Registration Number" in the upper right-hand corner of the MRIV. Since, K visas aren't immigrant visas not sure if that would be the case with a K visa. Check it out and see if it is the A# on her visa.

I just thought I would let you know that my K-1 Visa doesn't have the A# anywhere on it but I do know that many people on VJ told me theirs did ... I got mine from Vancouver, Canada ...

I ended up getting mine from my NOA2 from our I-129F approval ...

But is that the Registration Number? If it's written on the visa someone at the embassy or POE did that and probably that doesn't happen to everyone.

Such quick and considerate responses. The A# was the handwritten scribble on the back of the I-94. Interestingly, the only other place I have found it was on the I-797 approval in the block labeled beneficiary. Thanks to everyone.
