So what is the deal with Biometric Walk Ins?

Hi Guys,

So I received my letter through on Saturday regarding my Biometric appointment, which is set for August 7th. Obviously I see people on here mention all the time, about walking in and having this done early. What would I need to do to have this done? Is there any benefit to doing it early, or is it better to wait for the actual date given? If I do go in early, what do I need to take with me?

AOS Journey

Day 0 - 07/10/2012 - AOS package (I-130,I-485, I-175) mailed to Chicago with FedEx.

Day 1 - 07/11/2012 - Confirmation from FedEx that package arrived and was signed for.

Day 3 - 07/13/2012 - Text confirmation from USCIS of receipt.

Day 4 - 07/14/2012 - Online banking shows that cheques were cashed.

Day 9 - 07/19/2012 - Received 3 out of 3 NOA letters in the post.

Day 11 - 07/21/2012 - Received biometrics appointment letter, appointed set for 08/07/2012.

Day 16 - 07/26/2012 - Completed biometrics walk in.

Day 56 - 09/04/2012 - Received text notification to state that my EAD has been ordered into production.

Day 59 - 09/07/2012 - Received 2nd text notification to state that my EAD has been ordered into production.

Day 62 - 09/10/2012 - Text notification that EAD has been mailed.

Day 64 - 09/12/2012 - EAD received in the mail.

Some ASOs will let you do an early walk-in, some will not. You can try searching these forums to see if yours has been mentioned by anyone else trying.

Some people believe it speeds up the processing of your application, others believe it has no effect. Some people just do it because it's one of the few things they have control over after filing their applications.

At the end of the day it cannot hurt your case and that is enough for some people to try.

If you do decide to try you need to take what you normally for the appointment, which is your fingerprint notice and ID. Turn your cellphone off before you go in the door, otherwise they will ask you to do so once you go in.

i say ABSOLUTELY try the walk-in...i did it today as mine was supposed to be for the 2nd of august, to heck with that! i went, and it took 10 minutes and i was out. as hypnos has said, some do, some dont. the ONLY reason why some wouldnt would be because they are full with appointments and are too busy. if you are in an area like myself where your local office is in Wichita Kansas lol, then you will probably get lucky as there's almost NEVER more than 2 people at that office at one time. try it, the worst that could happen is a simple no not today! and yes.. bring your passport or liscence and your ASC letter aka biometrics letter ! good luck!

Day 003- 08/11/2011 - Text and email confirmation from USCIS of receipt

Day 013- 08/22/2011 - Received receipt for I-130

Day 198- 03/07/2012 - Text and email confirmation of APPROVED I-130!

Day 390- 09/10/2012 - Text and email confirmation of EAD Card mailed to address on file

Day 390- 09/10/2012 - Text and email confirmation of USPS picking up mail from USCIS

Day 393- 09/13/2012 - Received EAD Card in mail!!!!

Day 393- 09/13/2012 - Text and email confirmation of USPS reporting the EAD Card was received by customer!

Day 414- 10/04/2012 - Interview and on the spot APPROVAL! PERMANENT RESIDENT!

You can try to go in early,it will definitely speed up your application.I did mine three weeks before the appointed day and next day my I-765 was approved,therefore i received my EAD before the set date for my biometrics.The security officer didn't even look at the date,or maybe he just ignored it.i was in and out within 15 mins.Just take your ID and the appointment letter with you.goodluck.

It won't definitely speed it up, but it can speed up the EAD. The EAD takes 2.5-3 months, regardless. So if you get your notice quickly after filing a walk in probably won't help, they will still have to process it. If your office is backed up and your EAD is just hinging on biometrics then a walk in may speed up the EAD by a week or two. I have seen zero evidence that it'll help speed up the GC.

08.25.2010 - NOA hard copies received (x4), case status available online: 765, 131, 130.
10.15.2010 - RFE received: need 2 additional photos for AP.
10.18.2010 - RFE response sent certified mail
10.21.2010 - Service request placed for biometrics
10.25.2010 - RFE received per USCIS
10.26.2010 - Text/email received - AP approved!
10.28.2010 - Biometrics appointment received, dated 10/22 - set for 11/19 @ 3:00 PM
11.01.2010 - Successful biometrics walk-in @ 9:45 AM; EAD card sent for production text/email @ 2:47 PM! I-485 case status now available online.
11.04.2010 - Text/Email (2nd) - EAD card sent for production
11.08.2010 - Text/Email (3rd) - EAD approved
11.10.2010 - EAD received
12.11.2010 - Interview letter received - 01.13.11
01.13.2011 - Interview - no decision on the spot
01.24.2011 - Approved! Card production ordered!
