Far as I know gay sex is completely legal there as is wife swamping and group sex but these are other activities best left to the privacy of peoples homes, rather than on parade.

The copy you posted as the basis to this thread, states that the upcoming pride parade would be the Ukraine's first ever, so it seems their issue is with gays and lesbians, specifically.

Under your premise, they should ban all parades, considering that most will engage in sexual activities, sooner or later.

When the original article describes a climate of violence against homosexuals in the context of a proposed law seeking to ban "homosexual propaganda" it seems this is exactly what is being said.

Especially when the comments of the original poster seem to gloss over the ugly side of this to make some spurious point about how what happens in another country's "culture" has nothing to do with them.

One might wonder why it was posted to begin with.

It's a bit fishy to ignore the core of the article which puts the proposed law in the wider context of alleged violent acts being perpetrated against gays and alleged growing anti-gay sentiment in Ukrainian public opinion. Reasonable people do not support violence - either directly or indirectly.

Whatever his views on homoesexuality are (we can guess perhaps), he can hardly claim impartiality on the issue without taking issue with the violence. And that's before he even talks about the law.

You can't write off that side of things - just so you can say that the proposed law amounts to an act of cultural preservation and then not have any questions about the people pushing it? (but that's not his business).

What does that even mean? How does one 'preserve culture'? It's not something you can buy in a shop!

I think they should give the homosexuals their own country. An island...a big island and give them plenty of money to build their own hospitals, schools, etc.. and then they could make their own laws and it would be a win - win situation for all sides. I don't know why this hasn't been tried yet but it's a great idea imo.

It all comes down to ignorance. Just because an idea is widespread (being exposed to gays can make you gay) does NOT make it correct. Unfortunately we are seeing a modern phenomenon where large groups of people seem to openly revel in their ignorance. These are the same groups that are usually the most anti-gay as well. Being gay is not a choice. Being ignorant is!
