My husband lost his greencard. He got a temporary greencard from USCIS and went home to apply for a new one. He did this online and inadvertently put the wrong address in when he sent in the form (we'd just moved). We figured, no big deal, we'd submit an electronic AR-11 form to change our address. Well, the electronic AR-11 form states that only fields marked with an asterisk are required, but when we try to submit the form, it wants us to fill out the nonrequired fields, such as when his visa expires (doesn't apply to us, but it will not accept anything other than a date). I don't mind filling out the other nonrequired fields, but that one is really tripping me up. It won't accept words, only a date. He's a permanent resident!

Now I have no idea what to do. We've got a replacement greencard application that was submitted tonight and I have to change our address in time. Does anyone know of any way around this problem? I would mail in an AR-11 but I am scared it won't get there in time. I wish there was a way to cancel the greencard application we just submitted, but when I asked my husband about it, he said we'd get charged another $450 if we did that. Thanks ahead of time for any guidance anyone can provide.

The form does not ask when a visa expires. It does ask for when a stay will expire for non permanent residents. Was the drop down near the top of the page saying "I am in the US as a" filled in with Permanent Resident? Did you include the A number?

I'm sorry, I assumed that those who were not permanent residents would have a visa and that the expiration of the visa is the expiration of the stay. My phrasing was off.

Unfortunately, yes, we filled everything in properly. The problem wasn't what we filled in. The problem seems to be that the form requires all information, not only that information indicated by the asterisks. This seems to be the case regardless of which browser or computer we use. Each time we click "Signature" the form goes down the list of "required" information we didn't include that doesn't apply to us and wasn't required at all.

Grrr..very frustrating.

We had the same problem with the AR-11 a few months ago.

It appears there is a system glitch - their field edits are requiring "all" fields to be completed, not just the required fields.

A simple fix for them but it's just not getting fixed.

Just download and print the form, complete it and mail to the appropriate address.

Use Internet Explorer, not Chrome or Firefox. I had the same problem. The problem goes away if you use Internet Explorer.

Also if you have a pending case there is an extra step you must take, you have to call or fill in another online form in addition to filling in the AR-11 online, it is explained on the website.

Thank you very much! I don't know why I didn't think to try IE. My mother works for the Medicare system and the government requires them to use IE. Some things don't work otherwise. I should have figured that if that branch of the government requires IE, its a fair bet that more of them do.

Thank you all for your help.
