I just mean this in reference to safety. You could have 10 magazines, but the time it would take to switch them out would slow down someone like the Aurora killer and could save lives. For those shooting for fun it doesn't seem like a big deal to switch them out?

does 13 bullets make a pistol safer than 14 bullets?

only one of my pistols holds 13 rounds - the others are 8 or less. so while i don't really have a dog in the fight per magazine capacity, i'm leery of anyone creating an arbitrary number out of thin air with little justification or research as to what one can hold. in essence, my concern with deciding what a magazine can hold is that some day, our resident einsteins known as "lawmakers" will decide to decrease it again and again, and eventually the only thing that's legal is a single shot.

switching magazines out can take just a few seconds with practice. without practice, it can take a long time. get a few dummy rounds and one can practice without even going to the range.

The extended magazines for a .45 Glock hold 30 and you can have 1 in the chamber. I thought I already said that? If you go back to my comments from last night I also addressed the fact that someone experienced would be able to switch the magazines quickly.

yes, you did - and as i don't have a glock, nor a 30 round glock magazine, i suppose it's time for lunch.

I just want to know if anyone can explain to me why these are needed. Or why this would be needed for any gun. Why does anyone with an AK need one of those huge magazines that curves all the way to the other end of the gun? Haven't heard a reason yet. :)

It does make sense what Charles is saying. Once there is a magazine limit, it becomes the framework for further reductions in capacity by lawmakers.

Because need doesn't even enter the picture. I don't need more than a half dozen AR-15s, but I have them. Saying someone doesn't need something is an emotional response when no other argument holds water.

I don't have 100 round magazines though, as they are too unreliable, I use 30 round PMAGS exclusively.

I was proud however when both presidential candidates said they saw no "need" for additional gun control legislation.

You are the one being emotional, not me, I am being rational. To say "I don't need a reason, I just want to have it" is not a justification and is rather puerile.

it seems you're complaining about the size of the magazine without knowing how many rounds are in it.

No, it is you being silly saying that an American should have to justify a purchase based on "need". My needs are obviously different from yours.

Not at all. You are being emotional. I'm just as American as you are, not sure why you added that in there?

I just said there were 30 in the Glock .45. I said that yesterday too.................... :bonk: Seems like you're complaining without any justification for it.

I have to say that I don't get the whole need thing either.

Actually I was going to change American to person, but I fat fingered.

No one can explain it. All I'm asking for is a justification and there isn't one. All I get is a barrage of insults from right wingers.

There are so many things that society doesn't need, but we don't regulate based on need in a free market economy.
