how thick of a brick wall? the ar-15 won't shoot through a brick wall.

again, what definition are we using for an extended magazine?

An AK will though. Why does anyone need one? What about those enormous magazines that you can get for them? What about those huge magazines you can get for a Glock? I think a regular one holds 13 with one in the chamber, why do you need 30/1?

The glocks come in different calibers so the capacity will vary due to the size of the round. For instance a 9mm glock in the common config will have 17 but the .45acp will only have 13.

I'll post a photo showing some different round sizes so you can see.

Right, I wasn't talking about a 9mm, sorry. :P

To me all bullets can kill people just as easily. What do you need 30 for? If you really need 30 you can use another magazine, surely?

Yep. In California you may only have 10.

You can also practice switching them out quickly, tape them together etc. With practice you won't need a large drum to shoot quickly.

To me this sounds like a better idea. Maybe I need to live in Cali.

There is always going to be a way around these rules, but it can make it more difficult for someone inexperienced like the Aurora shooter. Of course there is always the chance that a mass murderer could be a skilled shooter which would make that less useful but useful nonetheless.

That actually brings up and odd point. Why is it when I go duck hunting, I have to use a plug in my shotgun so that it will only hold 3 shells. If I want to go people hunting, I'm not required to use a plug, so I can have up 7 2-3/4"?

Well this might sound a bit backwards but that drum may have stopped him from killing more people. I don't know what rifle he had but some drums are inferior to the original manuf. magazine and can cause misfeeds. I heard his rifle jammed half way through.

Yes I also heard that and he had to switch to the hand guns. Apparently experienced gun owners don't buy drums. I'm not sure the size of the magazines for the Glock, I've read different things.

i don't have an ak, so someone who does will have to field that question.

i also don't have a glock, so same thing.

personally i'd not want a 30 round magazine for a pistol, as that changes the balance. on the bright side, it's rather difficult to conceal it.

No law will prevent a determined killer Deal with it........silently if possible.

@rock...you should take a course to educate yourself about guns and their operational differences. Without that knowledge your efforts might be misguided. I don't mean you should become a gun owner because it is not for everyone. Many people make the mistake of getting a gun to increase their security, but don't have it in them to actually use the weapon when justified. Getting your weapon taken away from you and then used on you is the likely scenario in that case.

@every1 else...Of course there has been many speculations about whether someone in the theater with a weapon could have made a difference or not, but sadly we will never know since ineffective knee-jerk laws prevented a law abiding citizen from having the option to intervene.

Most, if not all, gun laws prevent nothing and only restrict the honest owner. Even the waiting period law(which I once naively endorsed)has proven to be pointless. Magazine capacity is irrelevant, so is how the weapon is decorated. Capacity is effectively limited by the intended use. Dressing up a rifle to look like it came out of The Terminator does not make it more lethal than it's plain Jane cousin. If you want lethal, get a short barreled shotgun for home defense loaded with buckshot. THAT is the ultimate in close range lethality....yet has little or no ownership law(s) other than barrel length.(capacity is a function of it's size)

I know people want to DO something! ANYTHING to stop the nonsense violence........but you are utterly naive if you think any gun law passed is going to stop an intent criminal. Sorry, but I don't have an easy solution either.

The ONLYeffective measure I know of is education. Educate people about firearms and their use. Train those that wish to own them to do so safely. Just about any other regulation passed is more wishful thinking than effective measures.

I normally don't speculate, but haven't seen this mentioned here......it is possible the nut in the theater was in semi-protective gear for his intended shootout with police........but chickened out and turned himself over quietly like the coward he is.

I don't think you should be allowed on a computer, it isn't for everyone.

I just don't see the justification for things like that. The Glock we have has enough bullets (14) to kill someone if need be, and some. Why would anyone need any more than that?

14 is too many according to some members of society. personally i don't care how many bullets your magazine holds.

I just mean this in reference to safety. You could have 10 magazines, but the time it would take to switch them out would slow down someone like the Aurora killer and could save lives. For those shooting for fun it doesn't seem like a big deal to switch them out?
