Very true, we got married in Hawaii and the day after the wedding, we went to the Department of Health (where they register birth, wedding, death) to request copies of our marriage certificate, we got it in the mail in 4 weeks... make sure if you decide to get married in Hawaii, make time to request a copy while you are there... requesting via mail will take longer... Make sure that your wedding officiate know this too, so that they will turn over your signed marriage license right away after the wedding... Goodluck!!!

I bet your wife never wanted to leave. Being that Hawaii is closer to being like PI than the mainland. I can see why people think we are not a part of the US.

Out-of-state residents desiring to be married in Wisconsin may

apply for a license in any county, but then must be married

within that county.

Looks like out of state can even get married in Wisconsin - they just have to apply for the marriage license in the specific county in which they plan to marry .....

Hello guys,

I was wondering if i can travel from Washington to Hawai to get married without problems when my k1 visa is issued.

To be clear, i will leave France to go to Washington where i will be living with my future husband, then go to get married in hawai and then come to Dc after a week.

Did anyone done this before with no troubles please?

Xxso

You will have no problems at all. The K1 carries no restrictions in regards to the State in which the marriage must take place. Your marriage will be recognized everywhere and you'll be in accordance with the terms by which your visa was issued.

Congrats and Aloha!!!

I think she may be confusing the issue with some states which require a waiting period between license issuance and the actual marriage ceremony.

I disagree. Unless you have personally done this please allow the person that I proposed the question to and who has personally doen it answer it, if you don't mind.

Thanks.

I have personally done this and there is nothing to explain. Domestic flights do not go through any customs, and a K-1, or any visa entrant, can travel freely within the US.

AOS for my husband

I don't mind at all. I have done this personally. My POE was in the East Coast, then I took an unrelated flight (different airline, booked separately, etc.) to California and got married here. Nobody asked me anything while en route to California or when we applied for the marriage license. Before we got married, we traveled to other States, and still nobody ever asked a single thing. After we got married, and before I received my green card, we moved to a different place, and again nobody asked me anything. That's why they call it the Land of the Free.

You may have gotten an answer from another person, but the answer you got was a correct answer.

There are ZERO restrictions traveling to ANY state (and Hawaii is just another state), and for sure customs has no interest in travelers going between states.

Now if you are traveling by road within so many miles of the border in AZ, CA, TX and NM there is a very good chance you will run across Border Patrol at check points, but they are not customs or immigrations agents

I am still waiting and wondering about the answer to that too. I thought they responded that way to what I posted because they had knowledge of states with residency requirements.

This is what I've been waiting for.

So you entered on K1 at a mainland POE (please confirm which one), went through the immigration process, etc. Then later in the week/month (please confirm), you took another flight not related to your originating flight from the old country, landed in Hawaii (please explain any immigration/customs process encountered) adn got married in Hawaii and returned to the mainland.

Thanks.

Hi! Sorry I was not clear with my reply... what happened to us is that we meet in Hawaii to get married... I flew from the Philippines and my husband flew from Philadelphia, we meet halfway... and got married in Hawaii... I was just explaining to you that if you need to AOS faster, you should request copies while you are there and not wait till you get back from your honeymoon (just expecting that you will also spend your honeymoon there as we did) coz this will delay your AOS... getting a marriage license in Hawaii is easy (they did not even check my passport), it will only take a few minutes, but getting the certified copy of the marriage certificate will take at least a month... unlike some other states wherein you can request it a few days after you get married... I do not think you will have any problem though flying to Hawaii to get married. As the other members explained here, as long as your flight will not land to any other airport outside the US, your fiancee should be fine... My experience with CBP officers in Hawaii if very good...
