Tell the IO that you are happy to wait for your GC to be processed, but meanwhile would like to visit the beautiful Rockies and the Grand Canyon, the region where your husband resides. You are being honest and in the event your visitor visa is denied, smile and take it in stride. But seize the rein and try your luck. Trust me, consulate officials are not hardened, emotionless people. I speak with my own experience.
